In a week that will feature events from the UFC, Bellator and Strikeforce…somebody has to go first and that somebody in the UFC. The UFC has put a great card together for their third effort on Fuel TV, with a main event that has title implications. Also, there is a UFC Ultimate Fighter champion in action and a key fight in the stacked UFC Lightweight Division.
Kicking off the action is a middleweight division fight as Tom “The Filthy Mauler†Lawlor (7-4-0) does battle with Jason “The Athlete†MacDonald (25-15-0). Tom Lawlor has won one of his past four UFC fights, with that lone victory coming over Patrick Cote. Jason MacDonald has split both of his fights since returning from a knee injury, defeating Ryan Jensen and suffering a defeat to Alan Belcher. This could become a battle to avoid the pink slip for both fighters and it will be Tom Lawlor avoiding one.
Light heavyweight fighters will be featured next as Fabio Maldonado (18-4-0) competes against Igor “The Duke†Pokrajac (24-8-0). Fabio Maldoado has split both of his UFC fights, defeating James McSweeney and suffering a defeat to Kyle Kingsbury. Igor Pokrajac has won two straight heading into this fight, including a knockout of Krzystof Soszynski at UFC 140. This should be an exciting slugfest to check out and it will be Igor Pokrajac pulling out the big victory when it’s all said and done.
We drop to the bantamweight division for the next fight as Jeff “Hellbound†Hougland (10-4-0) stands across the octagon from Yves “Tiger†Jabouin (17-7-0). Jeff Hougland has won nine straight fights heading into this one, including a UFC 132 win over Donny Walker. Yves Jabouin has won two of three in UFC competition, most notably defeating Ian Loveland at UFC 134 by split decision. The winning streak of Jeff Hougland will come to an end on Tuesday Night as Yves Jabouin out strikes him to victory.
A key lightweight division fight is up next as Donald “Cowboy†Cerrone (17-4-0) battles Jeremy “Lil Heathen†Stephens (20-7-0). Donald Cerrone has won four of five in UFC competition, but is coming off of a loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 141. Jeremy Stephens has won two of his last three in the UFC, most notably defeating Marcus Davis at UFC 125. This fight will most likely be the fight of the night and it will be Donald Cerrone notching up another victory here.
Up next is a welterweight division fight as Jorge “Lil Monster†Lopez (11-2-0) takes on Amir Sadollah (5-3-0). Jorge Lopez is currently winless in UFC competition, having suffered a defeat to Justin Edwards at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 25. Amir Sadollah has won two of his last three and is only one of a handful of fighters to spend his entire career in the UFC. How this fight got co-main event status is beyond me, but it will be Jorge Lopez getting his first UFC victory when it all ends.
Headlining this card is a featherweight division fight as Dustin “The Diamond†Poirier (12-1-0) faces “The Korean Zombie†Chan Sung Jung (12-3-0). Dustin Poirier has been undefeated thus far in his UFC career, most notably defeating Josh Grispi at UFC 125. Chan Sung Jung is also undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated both Leonard Garcia and Mark Hominnick. The winner of this fight will be getting himself a title shot and that fighter is going to be Dustin Poirier.
