BELLATOR 69 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 5/16/2012 9:09 PM

The countdowns in now at two because there are now only two events left in season six of the Bellator Fighting Championships. Middleweight fighters will be the main focus of Bellator 69 because the middleweight tournament final will be taking place. Also, a welterweight tournament semi-final is happening and possibly the top female fighter in all of MMA is in action.

Kicking off the action is a heavyweight division fight as Kevin “Concrete” Asplund (15-1-0) battles Ron “The Monster” Sparks (8-1-0). Kevin Asplund will be making his Bellator debut in this fight, but he does so riding a fifteen fight winning streak. Ron Sparks made it to the semi-finals of the season five heavyweight tournament before losing to Eric Prindle. This could be the best fight of Bellator’s sixth season and it will be Ron Sparks pulling out the big victory.

We move to the women’s strawweight division as Jessica “Jag” Aguilar (13-4-0) competes against Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii (25-1-0). Jessica Aguilar has won four straight heading into this one, most notably defeating Carla Esparza at Bellator 46. Megumi Fujii made it to the finals of the inaugural Bellator women’s tournament before losing a controversial decision to Zoila Gurgel. This could be the best female fight of the year, but it will be Magumi Fujii earning the victory in this one.

Up next is a Bellator welterweight Tournament Semi-Final battle as Karl “Psycho” Amoussou (14-4-0) faces David “The Caveman” Rickels (10-0-0). Karl Amoussou got his spot in the tournament semi-finals when he defeated Chris Lozano at Bellator 63. David Rickels found his way to the second round of the tournament by defeating Jordan Smith at Bellator 63. A classic battle is sure to ensue with this encounter, but it will be Karl Amoussou going to the finals.

Headlining this card is a Bellator Middleweight Tournament Finals fights as Maiquel “Big Rig” Falcao (30-4-0) takes on Andreas “Sweet Swede” Spang (8-1-0). Maiquel Falcao punched his ticket to the finals by defeating both Norman Paraisy and Vyacheslav Vasilevsky. Andreas Spang entered the tournament as an alternate and he got to the finals by defeating Brian Rogers at Bellator 66. Having less tournament fights will benefit Andreas Spang in this one as he wins the middleweight tournament.
