BELLATOR 70 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 5/22/2012 10:21 PM

The highly entertaining season number six will be coming to a close this Friday Night and it does so with a heavyweight title fight. There will also be two separate tournament fights as the lightweight tournament finals and bantamweight tournament semi-finals will occur. Also, if that was not enough to tune in on Friday Night, a former UFC fighter will find himself in the cage as well.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as Francisco Derek Campos (9-2-0) competes against Rich “No Love” Clementi (42-21-0). Francisco Derek Campos has won five of six entering this fight and has also fought UFC veteran Diego Brandao. Rich Clementi has had mixed results since getting released from the UFC, most notably defeating Bellator veteran Derrick Krantz. This fight will be a good test to see if Rich Clementi is still relevant in MMA and I’m betting he is in this one.

A bantamweight tournament semi-final fight is next as Hiroshi “Iron” Nakamura (15-5-0) battles Luis Alberto “Betao” Nogueira (13-2-0). Hiroshi Nakamura found himself in the tournament semi-finals when he defeated Rodrigo Lima at Bellator 64. Luis Alberto Nogueira is competing in the tournament semi-finals after besting Alexis Vila at Bellator 65. This is a great international battle to be featured on the card, but it will be Hiroshi Nakamura getting the duke in this one.

Up next is the lightweight tournament finals as Rick “Genghis” Hawn (13-1-0) takes on Brent Weedman (20-7-0). Rick Hawn got himself a spot in the tournament finals by defeating both Ricardo Tirloni and Lloyd Woodard. Brent Weedman kept himself alive in this tournament with victories over the duo of JJ Ambrose and Thiago Michel Pereira Silva. This will be one heck of an action packed tournament final, but it will be rick Hawn collecting the check in the end.

Headlining this card is a Bellator Heavyweight title Fight as champion Cole “The Polar Bear” Konrad (8-0-0) faces Eric “American Soldier” Prindle (7-1-0). Cole Konrad has competed once since winning the gold, which was a victory over UFC veteran Paul Buentello at Bellator 48. Eric Prindle earned the title shot by winning the season five tournament with victories over Ron Sparks, Abe Wagner and Thiago Santos (failed to make weight). This fight is going to play out like most Cole Konrad fights, which is the champion wrestling his opponent to win a decision.
