While the pay-per-view portion of the event will be focusing on the heavyweights, the FX portion of the preliminary card could be the best preliminary card ever to air on the channel thus far. The card will be headlined by the latest winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter and feature a past UFC Ultimate Fighter coach as well. As if that was not enough, a welterweight fighter returns to the octagon and an important lightweight battle will take place.
Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Dan “The Outlaw†Hardy (23-10-0) competes against Duane “Bang†Ludwig (21-12-0). Dan Hardy enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak and could be competing for his job in this one. Duane Ludwig has won two of five since returning to the UFC, including a victory over UFC Ultimate Fighter Champion Amir Sadollah. This fight will be the most important of Dan Hardy’s career, but it will be a bad ending as Duane Ludwig gets the victory.
Middleweights will be in the octagon next as CB “The Doberman†Dollaway (11-4-0) battles Jason “Mayhem†Miller (23-8-0). CB Dollaway enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, last losing to Jared Hamman at UFC On Versus V. Jason Miller is currently winless in his current UFC run, losing to Michael Bisping at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale. The fall of Jason Miller will continue here as CB Dollaway will be picking up the biggest victory of his career.
Up next is a lightweight division fight as Edson Barboza (10-0-0) does battle with Jamie “C-4†Varner (19-6-0). Edson Barboza is coming off of the biggest victory of his career, a spinning wheel kick knockout of Terry Etim at UFC 142. Jamie Varner is the former WEC Lightweight Champion who has won three of four since Zuffa released him in 2010. The sky is the limit for Edson Barboza and that will continue here as he picks up a victory over the former champion.
Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division fight as Diego “Ceara†Brandao (14-7-0) faces Darren Elkins (13-2-0). Diego Brandao was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 14 when he submitted Dennis Bermudez in the finals. Darren Elkins has won three of four in UFC competition, most notably defeating Duane Ludwig at UFC On Versus I. This fight is going to be a huge test for Diego Brandao, but it will be a test that the fighter fails on Saturday Night.
