It seems that the UFC could not catch a break when it came to their flyweight tournament, but hopefully their luck will change on Friday Night. While the flyweights will be headlining the main card, a pair of welterweights will headline on the Fuel TV preliminary card. Also, a featherweight contender returns to action and a fighter jinxed on his UFC debut gets another opportunity.
Kicking off the action is a middleweight division fight as Caio “Hellboy†Magalhaes (5-0-0) competes against Buddy Roberts (11-2-0). Caio Magalhaes will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he has spent time in both Shooto and Amazon Fight. Buddy Roberts was supposed to make his UFC debut at UFC on Fuel TV I, but his opponent injured his ankle while warming up and the fight was cancelled. While he was jinxed in his initial UFC debut, Buddy Roberts will get a victory in his second shot at a first impression.
Lightweight fighters will be featured next as Tim “The Dirty Bird†Means (17-3-0) is in action against Justin Salas (10-3-0). Tim Means is currently undefeated in UFC competition with a victory over Bernardo Magalhaes at UFC On Fuel TV I. Justin Salas is also undefeated in UFC competition, having defeating Anton Kuivanen at UFC On Fuel TV I. This was an unheralded fight when the fight card was announced, but it will be Tim Means staying undefeated in UFC competition in the end.
We drop to the bantamweight division for the next fight as Dustin “The Disciple†Pague (10-5-0) does battle with Jared “The Jackhammer†Papazian (14-7-0). Dustin Pague is currently winless in the UFC, with that lone defeat coming to John Albert at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale. Jared Papazian also had an unsuccessful UFC debut, with his loss coming to Mike Easton at UFC On FX I. This is a must win fight for both competitors, but it will be Jared Papazian getting the much needed victory in the end.
A featherweight division fight is next as Leonard “Bad Boy†Garcia (15-8-0) battles Matt “The Real One†Grice (14-4-0). Leonard Garcia has lost two of three since returning to the UFC, with that lone victory coming over Nam Phan at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale. Matt Grice is currently winless in his second UFC run, having lost to Ricardo Lamas at UFC On Versus IV. This is essentially a battle to avoid the pink slip for both men and it will be Leonardo Garcia keeping his job here.
Up next is a welterweight division encounter as Seth “The Polish Pistola†Baczynski (15-7-0) faces Lance Benoist (6-0-0). Seth Baczynski is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, most notably defeating Matt Brown at UFC 139. Lance Benoist is undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Matthew Riddle at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 25. The winner of this fight should move onto bigger fights in the division and that winner will be Seth Baczynski.
Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Mike Pierce (13-5-0) takes on Carlos Eduardo “Ta Danado†Rocha (9-1-0). Mike Pierce has won five of eight in UFC competition, most notably defeating Brock Larson at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 19. Carlos Eduardo Rocha has split both of his UFC fights, defeating Kris McCray and losing to Jake Ellenberger. This is a key fight in an increasingly stacked welterweight division and it will be Mike Pierce picking up the victory.
