The controversial semi-final fight of the UFC Flyweight Tournament will finally be put behind us this coming Friday Night at UFC On FX III as Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson face off again. Also, the welterweight division will be highlighted as two important divisional fights will be taking place. If that was not enough, the UFC fans voted a fight between Scott Jorgensen and Eddie Wineland to take place on the main card.
Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division fight as Scott “Young Guns†Jorgensen (13-5-0) competes against Eddie Wineland (18-8-0). Scott Jorgensen has won two of three in UFC competition, most notably defeating Jeff Curran at UFC 137. Eddie Wineland is currently winless under the UFC banner, with those losses coming to Urijah Faber and Joseph Benavidez. The fans definitely voted in the right fight to kick off the action and it will be Scott Jorgensen rewarding them with a victory.
Welterweight competitors will square off next as Josh “The Dentist†Neer (33-10-0) battles Mike “Quicksand†Pyle (22-8-0). Josh Neer is currently undefeated in his most recent UFC run, last defeating Duane Ludwig at UFC On FX I. Mike Pyle has won five of eight since joining the UFC, with key victories coming over John Hathaway and Ricardo Almeida. This is a much bigger welterweight division fight than most think, but it will be Josh Neer pulling out the victory in the end.
Up next is another welterweight division fight as Charlie “The Spaniard†Brenneman (15-3-0) faces Erick “Indio†Silva (13-2-0). Charlie Brenneman has won four of six in the UFC, including an “Upset Of The Year†performance when he defeated Rick Story at UFC On Versus IV. Erick Silva is coming off of a controversial disqualification loss to Carlo Prater at UFC 142 this past January. This is a battle between two of the divisions best rising stars and it will be Erick Silva picking up the win.
Headlining this card is the flyweight tournament semi-final fight as Demetrious “Mighty Mouse†Johnson (14-2-0) takes on Ian “Uncle Creepy†McCall (11-2-0). Demetrious Johnson was originally declared the winner of the initial battle at UFC On FX II, but a judges error was later discovered and a rematch was ordered. Ian McCall made his controversial UFC debut after a three fight run in the Tachi Palace Fights promotion, where he went undefeated. Each fighter now knows the other way more than they did during the first encounter, but it will be Ian McCall advancing to the finals.
