XTREME FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 18 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/16/2012 8:28 AM

Next weekend will feature four different big time MMA events with Bellator 71, UFC On FX IV, UFC 147 and XFC 18. Sadly for the XFC, despite a pretty good card that will be airing live on HDNet, this show will most likely be overlooked by the MMA community. The preliminary card will take place first before they go live on HDNet, featuring four fights with good up and coming talent.

Kicking off the action is a flyweight division fight as Dave Hurst (0-0-0) is in action against Justin Pennington (2-2-0). Dave Hurst will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did once have an amateur MMA fight in the Strikeforce promotion. Justin Pennington enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with none of his four career fights going to a decision. Despite not having the best record right now, Justin Pennington is good enough to defeat Dave Hurst on Friday Night.

Heavyweights will step into the cage next as Jonathan “Big John” Ivey (30-46-0) battles Devan Plaisance (5-6-0). Despite having a poor record, Jonathan Ivey has fought such top names as Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock, Jeremy Horn and others. Jonathan Ivey has won three straight heading into this fight and none of his career fights have gone past the first round. Experience will be playing a huge advantage in this fight as Jonathan Ivey picks up a much needed win in this one.

Up next is a middleweight division fight as Michael Graham (0-0-0) does battle with Cory Robinson (0-0-0). Michael Graham will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did compete four times as an amateur. Cory Robinson will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight as well, but he rarely competed as an amateur. These types of fights between two fighters making their pro debuts are always a toss-up, but it will be Michael Graham getting the win.

Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division fight as Nate Landwehr (0-0-0) faces Billy Mullins (0-0-0). Nate Landwehr will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did compete several times as an amateur. Billy Mullins will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did go undefeated as an amateur. This fight is just like the last fight that I previewed, but it will be Billy Mullins picking up his first career victory.
