UFC 147 PAY-PER-VIEW CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/22/2012 3:41 PM

The much maligned UFC 147 pay-per-view finally takes place on Saturday Night with an anticipated rematch between Wanderlei Silva and Rich Franklin. Also, two of the four finalists from the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil will see their dreams of a UFC contract realized. If that was not enough, a heavyweight contender’s fight and an interesting featherweight division fight will occur.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Iuri “Marajo” Alcantara (28-3-0) is in action against Hacran “Barnabe” Dias (20-1-0). Iuri Alcantara is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated both Felipe Arantas and Michihiro Omigawa. Hacran Dias enters the fight riding an eight fight winning streak, with five victories in the Shooto: Brazil promotion. The winner of this fight should move high up the featherweight ladder and that fighter will be Iuri Alcantara.

Heavyweights step into the octagon next as Mike Russow (15-1-0) does battle with Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum (15-5-0). Mike Russow is currently undefeated in the UFC, most notably defeating Todd Duffee by knockout at UFC 114. Fabricio Werdum made a successful return to the UFC at UFC 143, defeating Roy Nelson by unanimous decision. The winner of this fight will be in line for a future title shot and that fighter looking at a title shot is Fabricio Werdum.

The UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil Featherweight Finals as Rony “Jason” Mariano Bezerra (10-3-0) battles Godofredo “Pepey” Castro (8-0-0). Rony Mariano Bezerra enters this fight riding a five fight winning streak and he holds a victory over UFC veteran Felipe Arantas. Godofredo Castro is an undefeated fighter who has finished seven of his eight fights in the opening round. This is a battle between two fighters who are finishers and it will be Godofredo Castro winning the featherweight finals.

Up next is the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil Middleweight Finals as Cezar “Mutante” Ferreira (4-2-0) takes on Sergio “Serginho” Moraes (6-1-0). Cezar Ferreira has won three of his last four, with two victories coming in the Bitetti Combat promotion. Sergio Moraes has not competed in a professional MMA fight in over two years and he once fought Bellator veteran Brett Cooper. The relative inexperience for both fighters will be a factor in this one as Cezar Ferreira win this tournament final.

Headlining this card is a middleweight division fight as Rich “Ace” Franklin (28-6-0) faces Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva (34-11-0). Rich Franklin has rotated wins and losses in his last six fight and this will be his first non-light heavyweight fight in nearly three years. Wanderlei Silva was one of the coaches in the UFC Ultimate Fighter Brazil and is coming off of a victory over Cung Le. This fight should be as exciting as the first fight, but it will be Wanderlei Silva getting the duke this time around.
