FIVE ROUNDS WITH UFC ON FUEL TV IV

By David Tees on 7/15/2012 6:12 PM

There is a new top contender to the UFC Middleweight Title, which ended a stellar night of action at UFC On Fuel TV IV. Besides a new middleweight title top contender, there is also a new threat in the middleweight division in Francis Carmont. Also, Andrew Craig made a stunning second round comeback and Aaron Simpson made a successful weight class drop.

Round One: The Wrecking Machine Was Wrecked

Dominance is easily the best word used to describe what transcribed between Chris Weidman and Mark Munoz on Wednesday Night. Chris Weidman used excellent wrestling in the opening round and even better striking in the second round to finish Mark Munoz. Mark Munoz did not look like his usual dominating self on Wednesday Night and now he falls down the rankings. Chris Weidman called out UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva after the fight and it is a title shot the undefeated fighter has earned.

Next Round Chris Weidman: UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva

Next Round For Mark Munoz: The Michael Bisping/Alan Belcher loser or the Hector Lombard/Tim Boetsch loser

Round Two: The A-Train Is Back On Track

Aaron Simpson has been near the top of the mountain in the middleweight division, but some setbacks forced a change in weight class. That meant that a trip to the welterweight division was necessary and on Wednesday Night, the first trip was successful. Aaron Simpson out wrestled Kenny Robertson on Wednesday Night to secure himself a decision victory. The question remains whether or not Aaron Simpson can maintain the momentum to make a run in the division.

Next Round For Aaron Simpson: Dan Miller, John Hathaway or Thiago Alves

Next Round For Kenny Robertson: Lance Benoist, Chris Clements or Justin Edwards

Round Three: A Limitless Competitor

Francis Carmont is starting to make some noise in the UFC and that noise got a little louder after UFC On Fuel TV IV. Francis Carmont made a great comeback from adversity before finishing Karlos Vemola off with a choke in the second round. Karlos Vemola has now competed in three different weight classes in the UFC, which makes one wonder where the fighter will go from here. Francis Carmont will now be looking for stiffer competition in the UFC Middleweight Division and it is well deserved.

Next Round For Francis Carmont: Patrick Cote, Constantinos Phillipou or Alessio Sakara

Next Round For Karlos Vemola: Kyle Noke, Tom Lawlor or Riki Fukuda

Round Four: The Assassin Has Been Assassinated

Anthony Njokuani has been out-striking people on route to a successful run in the UFC, then came Rafael Dos Anjos. This past Wednesday Night, Rafael Dos Anjos neutralized the striking of Anthony Njokuani on route to a decision victory. While his start in the UFC was a little rocky, Rafael Dos Anjos has started to become quite the force in the UFC Lightweight Division. Also, Anthony Njokuani must start learning some better wrestling skills because being just a good striker will not be enough to be a threat in the division.

Next Round For Rafael Dos Anjos: Mac Danzig, Sam Stout or Michael Johnson

Next Round For Anthony Njokuani: John Makdessi, Ramsey Nijem or Aaron Riley

Round Five: The Comeback Kid

Andrew Craig looked like a striking dummy for Rafael Natal after the first round of their fight on the Facebook preliminary card. Then came the second round, which lead the way for one of the greatest highlight reel finishes in recent UFC history. From out of nowhere, Andrew Craig floored a taunting Rafael Natal with a head kick that left the Brazilian out cold. While Andrew Craig looked golden, it was the taunting and teasing Rafael Natal that looked like a goof in the end.

Next Round For Andrew Craig: Karlos Vemola, Luiz Cane or Ed Herman

Next Round For Rafael Natal: Nick Catone, Jason MacDonald or Kyle Noke
