BELLATOR 72 MTV2 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 7/17/2012 6:38 PM

The Bellator “Summer Series” is in full swing and there is a truly stacked card airing this Friday Night on MTV2. This card is headlined by the season six welterweight tournament finals between Karl Amoussou and Bryan Baker. Also, Paul Daley will be making his Bellator debut and the light heavyweight tournament semi-finals will take place.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Waachiim Spiritwolf (9-10-0) compete against Marius “The Whitemare” Zaromskis (17-6-0).Waachiim Spiritwolf has lost three straight heading into this fight, with one of those losses coming to UFC veteran Jorge Lopez. Marius Zaromskis has already defeated Waachiim Spiritwolf, which happened back at Bellator 68 via TKO. Not much has changed for both fighters since their last encounter and it will be Marius Zaromskis getting another victory.

The Bellator Light Heavyweight Tournament Semi-Finals starts next as Tim Carpenter (9-1-0) is in action against Travis “Diesel” Wiuff (67-14-0). Tim Carpenter punched his ticket to the semi-finals by defeating Beau Tribolet back at Bellator 71 in June. Travis Wiuff found his way to the second round of the tournament by defeating Chris Davis at Bellator 71. Travis Wiuff stream rolled past his first round opposition and the same exact thing will be happening here.

Another Bellator Light Heavyweight Tournament Semi-Final fight is up as Emanuel “The Hardcore Kid” Newton (18-6-0) battles Attila “Pumukli” Vegh (26-4-0). Emanuel Newton earned himself a spot in the semi-finals with a victory over Roy Boughton at Bellator 71. Attila Vegh is a tournament semi-finalist following a submission victory over Zelg Galesic at Bellator 71. This should be the more exciting of the two tournament fights, but it will be Attila Vegh moving onto the finals.

Up next is a welterweight division fight as Rudy “Bad News” Bears (14-10-0) takes on Paul “Semtex” Daley (29-12-0). Rudy Bears has only won one of his last four heading into this fight, with one of those losses coming to UFC veteran Forrest Petz. Paul Daley is competing for the first time since his Strikeforce release, which came after a loss to Kazou Misaki. This fight should mostly be contested on the feet and it will be Paul Daley making a successful Bellator debut.

Headlining this card is the season six welterweight tournament finals as Karl “Psycho” Amoussou (15-4-0) faces Bryan “The Beast” Baker (18-3-0). Karl Amoussou is a tournament final participant after defeating both Chris Lozano and David Rickels. Bryan Baker is a tournament finalist following a pair of victories over the duo of Carlos Alexandre Pereira and Ben Saunders. These are two fighters who do nothing but come forward at each other and it will be Karl Amoussou winning the tournament.
