XFC 19: CHARLOTTE SHOWDOWN AXS TV MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/1/2012 11:01 AM

AXS TV will be airing four straight live MMA events every Friday Night in August and it all begins with Xtreme Fighting Championships 19. This promotional debut in North Carolina will be headlined by a UFC Ultimate Fighter alumni and a pair of top female fighters. Also, a Strikeforce veteran competes and a lot of upstart MMA fighters will be seeing time in the XFC cage.

Kicking off the action is a middleweight division fight as Roger “The Leprechaun” Carroll (11-5-0) is in action against Nicolae “The Armor” Cury (6-3-0). Roger Carroll has won three of his last four heading into this one, plus he has also fought WEC veteran Nissen Osterneck. Nicolae Cury is currently undefeated in XFC competition, having defeated Elijah Harshbarger back at XFC 14. This fight will be an excellent way to kick off the evening, but it will be Roger Carroll getting the duke in this one.

Featherweights step into the cage next as Lawson McClure (8-2-0) competes against Keith “The Rockstar” Richardson (5-3-0). Lawson McClure enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak, with three of the victories coming in the Wild Bill’s Fight Night promotion. Keith Richardson has won three of his last four, but he is currently winless in 2012 after a loss to Ronnie Rogers in March. These are two fighters riding a big wave of momentum and it will be Lawson McClure keeping his momentum going.

A pair of lightweights will be featured next as Joe “Hitman” Elmore (6-4-0) will do battle with Kevin Forant (2-0-0). Joe Elmore enters this fight riding a two fight winning streak and once competed against UFC veteran Diego Saraiva. Kevin Forant is an undefeated fighter who made his professional debut this past September, defeating Sebastian Wojdak. This fight is a real big test for the undefeated fighter, but he will be failing as Joe Elmore ends the undefeated streak.

More featherweight action will be happening next as Shane Crenshaw (1-0-0) stands across the cage from Jason “The Ronin” Hicks (4-0-0). Shane Crenshaw made his professional MMA debut a few months back, defeating Steve Shafer by knockout. Jason Hicks is currently undefeated in Xtreme Fighting Championships competition, having defeated Mike Milmerstadt at XFC 14. This will be an interesting battle of the undefeated to check out, but it will be Jason Hicks remaining undefeated in the end.

Another lightweight division fight will happen on Friday Night as David Mays (3-3-0) sees action against “Notorious” Nick Newell (7-0-0). David Mays has only won one of his last three, with that lone victory coming over Franklin Chancelor Edmonson. Nick Newell is an undefeated fighter who has achieved two of his seven career victories in the XFC promotion. This fight almost looks like it was set up for a Nick Newell victory and that exactly what is going to happen.

Up next is a women’s strawweight division fight as Felice “Lil’ Bulldog” Herrig (6-4-0) battles Simona Soukupova (2-1-0). Felice Herrig is coming off of her first victory in XFC competition, having defeated Patricia Vidonic at XFC 17. Simona Soukupova is looking to rebound from her first career loss, which came to Karla Benitez in August 2011. Felice Herrig is a female fighter on the rise and she will be pulling out the victory in the semi-main event.

Headlining this card is a welterweight division fight as Mike “The Greek” Bronzoulis (14-5-0) faces Corey “The real Deal” Hill (6-4-0). Mike Bronzoulis recently ended a two fight losing streak at an Ultimate Warriors Fighting event, defeating Danny Salinas. Corey Hill enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak and he was a UFC Ultimate Fighter 5 contestant. The winner of this fight could earn a deal with a bigger MMA promotion and it will be Mike Bronzoulis out wrestling his foe to get the victory.
