After a truly disappointing UFC 149 card, the UFC returns to pay-per-view with a rematch for the UFC Lightweight Title. Former training partners turned opponents will co-headline the event as Donald Cerrone battles Melvin Guillard. Also, four middleweights battle their way into title contention and a pair featherweights get an opportunity on pay-per-view.
Kicking off the card is a featherweight division fight as Justin “The American Kid†Lawrence (4-0-0) is in action against Max “Blessed†Holloway (5-1-0). Justin Lawrence is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated John Cofer at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale. Max Holloway has split both of his fights in the UFC, defeating Pat Schilling and suffering a defeat to Dustin Poirier. This is a golden opportunity for both fighters, but it will be Max Holloway taking advantage of his reach to obtain victory.
Middleweights enter the octagon next as Yushin “Thunder†Okami (26-7-0) competes against Buddy Roberts (12-2-0). Yushin Okami enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with those losses coming to Anderson Silva and Tim Boetsch. Buddy Roberts is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Caio Magalhaes at UFC On FX III. While Buddy Roberts is a talented fighter, Yushin Okami is just on a higher level than him and he will achieve victory in this one.
More middleweight action is next as Jake Shields (27-6-1) will do battle with Ed “Short fuse†Herman (20-8-0). Jake Shields ended a two fight losing streak back at UFC 144, when he defeated Yoshihiro Akiyama by unanimous decision. Ed Herman has won three straight fights since returning from a knee injury, last defeating Clifford Starks at UFC 143. The majority of this fight should be taking place on the ground, but it will be Ed Herman keeping the winning streak alive.
Up next is a lightweight division fight as Donald “Cowboy†Cerrone (18-4-0) faces Melvin “The Young Assassin†Guillard (30-10-0). Donald Cerrone has won five of six in UFC competition, last defeating Jeremy Stephens at UFC On Fuel TV III. Melvin Guillard recently ended a two fight losing streak at UFC 148 when he defeated Fabricio Camoes by unanimous decision. This fight should be close until it hits the ground, which is when Donald Cerrone will submit his opponent to gain victory.
Headlining this card is a UFC Lightweight Title fight as champion Ben “Smooth†Henderson (16-2-0) battles Frankie “The Answer†Edgar (14-2-0). Ben Henderson won the UFC Lightweight Title by defeating Frankie Edgar back at UFC 144 by unanimous decision. Frankie Edgar will be competing in his third rematch in his last six fights, winning all of them up to this point. The winner of this fight will be determined by who has improved the most since UFC 144, that fighter is Frankie Edgar.
