While it will be the women of MMA getting the majority of the focus this weekend, it is the MMA group based out of Texas that starts off the weekend. This Friday Night’s Legacy Fighting Championships 13 event will feature the crowning of a brand new heavyweight champion. However, before that champion can be crowned, several top notch fighters will be competing on the preliminary card.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Johnny “The Judge†Rodriguez (1-0-0) competes against Joseph “The Black Rooster†Salas (2-1-0). Johnny Rodriguez began his professional MMA career earlier this Summer, defeating Daniel Lucas at an Ultimate Warrior Fighting event. Joseph Salas has rotated wins and losses thus far in his professional career, with his last fight being a victory over Casey Hudson. Despite having a very small experience advantage, Joseph Salas will be falling to Johnny Rodriguez in this one.
Flyweight action will be taking place next as JP Cole (1-0-0) does battle with Evan “MMA Ninja†Martinez (6-4-0). JP Cole made his professional MMA debut in April of this year, defeating Gino Escamilla by knockout in the third round. Evan Martinez enters this fight riding a two fight winning streak, but he has not competed in over two years. The long layoff is going to hurt Evan Martinez in this one as JP Cole picks up the victory to remain undefeated.
We move to the lightweight division for the next fight as David Armas (1-4-0) is in action against Quaint “KO†Kempf (4-2-0). David Armas is currently winless in Legacy FC competition, with those losses coming to Shelby Sheehan and Jeremy Mahon. Quaint Kempf has won two of his last three MA fights, but is coming off of a year long layoff from competition. Despite being the more active fighter, David Armas will be no competition for Quaint Kempf in this one.
Up next is a lightweight division fight as Burt McDonald (2-2-0) will be standing across the cage from Casey Williams (0-0-0). Even though Burt McDonald has competed four times as an professional, but this fight will mark his first outside of the Xtreme Knockout promotion. Casey Williams will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did compete twice as an amateur. This will be a bad fight for Casey Williams to be making his pro debut in as Burt McDonald picks up the victory.
Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Sean Holden (1-0-0) battles Lior Shporen (0-0-0). Sean Holden made his professional MMA debut in September 2011, defeating Wes Linsley at a Fight Game MMA event. Lior Shporen will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he was undefeated as an amateur. This is truly a pick ‘em fight if there ever was one, but I’ll be choosing Sean Holden to remain undefeated.
