LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 13 AXS TV MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/15/2012 11:48 AM

For the third straight week in a row, AXS TV will be airing a live MA event and this week it is Legacy Fighting Championships 13. Originally there were going to be two title fights, but circumstances have led to just a heavyweight title fight headlining the event. Also, a few UFC veterans are in action and several of the best unsigned talent will be stepping into the cage.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division fight as Ryan “Baby Face” Benoit (4-1-0) competes against Randy Villareal (8-9-0). Ryan Benoit is currently undefeated in Legacy FC competition, having defeated Cody Williams at Legacy FC 11. Randy Villareal enters this fight having only won one of his last seven, with that lone victory coming over Frank Ortega. Ryan Benoit is clearly a fighter on the rise and he will continue that rise as he pulls off the victory on Friday Night.

Welterweights enter the cage next as Russell Brewer (3-0-0) will be in action against Hayward Charles (4-4-0). Russell Brewer is an undefeated fighter who is coming off of a victory over Gabriel Vasquez, but he has not competed in over a year. Hayward Charles has won one of his last three heading into this fight, plus he has spent the majority of his career in the Xtreme Knockout promotion. This fight will be the biggest challenge of Russell Brewers career, but it will be a challenge met at Legacy FC 13.

We drop to the featherweight division as Matt “The Crowbar” Hobar (5-0-0) does battle with Steven “Ocho” Peterson (6-2-0). Matt Hobar is an undefeated fighter who has achieved three of five victories in the Shark Fights promotion. Steven Peterson is currently undefeated in Legacy FC competition, having defeated Steve Garcia at Legacy FC 8. These are two of the better unsigned featherweights competing right now, but it will be Matt Hobar remaining undefeated in the end.

Lightweights will be featured next as Donnie Bell (5-1-0) will be in the cage with Clayton Robinson (6-3-0). Donnie Bell enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with his last victory coming in the “Fightville” documentary featured USA MMA promotion. Clayton Robinson has won three of his last four, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Abel Trujillo. Clayton Robinson is on a big roll right now and that roll will be continuing as he gets his fourth straight on Friday.

More featherweight action is up next as Douglas Frey (10-8-0) will do battle with Chris “Bad Boy” Tickle (7-5-0). Douglas Frey has only won one of his last five heading into this event, with that lone victory coming over Tim Snyder. Chris Tickle will be competing for the first time since his UFC release, which came after a loss at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale. This will be an interesting fight to check out, but Chris Tickle’s big fight experience will carry him onto victory.

Up next is a welterweight division fight as Evan “The Butcher” Cutts (5-0-0) takes on Sean Spencer (8-1-0). Evan Cutts is an undefeated fighter who holds a victory over Regan Penn, the brother of UFC veteran BJ Penn. Sean Spencer is coming off of an appearance at Bellator Fighting Championships 62, where he defeated Joseph Daily. This fight has the potential to be the “Fight Of The Night”, but it will be Evan Cutts keeping his undefeated streak alive.

Headlining this card is a Legacy FC Heavyweight Title decision fight as Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis (7-2-0) faces Jared “The Big Show” Rosholt (4-0-0). Derrick Lewis enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, plus he has fought UFC veteran Shawn Jordan. Jared Rosholt is an undefeated fighter who is the brother of UFC veteran and welterweight fighter Jake Rosholt. This is a historical main event for the Legacy FC promotion, but it will be Jared Rosholt becoming the champion.
