STRIKEFORCE: ROUSEY VS. KAUFMAN SHOWTIME EXTREME PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/16/2012 2:15 PM

This weekend is all about the ladies as Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey makes her first title defense. The women of MMA will also be featured on the preliminary card as four women get the opportunity to prove themselves. Also, an undefeated lightweight fighter gets a big test and a pair of middleweights will step into the cage.

Kicking off the card is a women’s bantamweight division fight as Germaine “The Iron Lady” De Randamie (2-2-0) faces off with Hiroko “Cats Eye” Yamanaka (12-1-0). Germaine De Randamie has split both of her Strikeforce appearances, defeating Stephanie Webber and suffering a defeat to Julia Budd. Hiroko Yamanaka returns to Strikeforce after the ill-fated title fight against then-Strikeforce Women’s Featherweight Champion Cristiane Santos, as the champion tested positive for steroids. This is a huge mismatch for Germaine De Randamie as Hiroko Yamanaka easily picks up the victory here.

Middleweights step into the cage next as Adlan Amagov (9-2-0) does battle with Keith “KO Kid” Berry (11-9-0). Adlan Amagov saw his nine fight winning streak ended at Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine when he suffered a TKO loss to Robbie Lawler. Keith Berry has only won one of his last five fights, with that lone victory coming over Kenny Aires at a Gladiator Challenge event. Adlan Amagov is far too superior of a striker to drop this fight as Keith Berry is far to over-matched in this one.

Up next is a lightweight division fight as Bobby “King” Green (18-5-0) competes against Matt Ricehouse (6-0-0). Bobby Green enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, most notably defeating James Terry at Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier. Matt Ricehouse is an undefeated fighter who holds a victory over Ryan Couture, son of the legendary Randy Couture. The winner of this fight should get more important fights in the following year and that fighter is going to be Bobby Green.

Headlining this portion of the card is a women’s bantamweight division fight as Julie “Fireball” Kedzie (16-10-0) faces Miesha “Takedown” Tate (12-3-0). Julie Kedzie has won two of three heading into Saturday Night, defeating both Kaitlin Young and Sarah D’Alelio. Miesha Tate is competing for the first time since losing the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Title to Ronda Rousey. The winner of this fight should be next in line for a title shot and that fighter getting the shot will be Miesha Tate.
