BELLATOR 73 MTV2 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 8/23/2012 11:10 AM

The highly eventful second annual Bellator “Summer Series” is coming to a close as Bellator 73 airs on Friday Night. Headlining this card is a pair of tournament finals in both the light heavyweight division and bantamweight division. Also, a former UFC heavyweight fighter is in action and a pair of undefeated light heavyweights get a big opportunity.

Kicking off the action is a light heavyweight division fight as Mike Mucitelli (2-0-0) competes against Matt Van Buren (5-0-0). Mike Mucitelli is an undefeated fighter who has finished both of his opponents within the opening round. Matt Van Buren is an undefeated fighter who hold s a decision victory over Strikeforce veteran Brandon Saling. This is a great opportunity for two fighters who are relatively new to professional MMA scene, but it will be matt Van Buren keeping his undefeated streak alive.

Heavyweights step into the cage next as Ryan Martinez (7-1-0) does battle with Mike “The Juggernaut” Wessel (11-4-0). Ryan Martinez enters the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes two victories in the Pro Elite promotion. Mike Wessel has won three of five since his UFC release, last defeating Matt Kovacs at ShoFight 20. The winner of this fight should get an entry into the next heavyweight tournament and that fighter will be Mike Wessel.

Up next is a Bellator Light Heavyweight Tournament Finals encounter as Attila “Pumukli” Vegh (27-4-0) faces Travis “Diesel” Wiuff (68-14-0). Attila Veg earned his spot in the tournament finals with victories over both Zelg Galesic and Emanuel Newton. Travis Wiuff got himself into the tournament finals by defeating Chris Davis and Tim Carpenter respectively. Travis Wiuff has been steam rolling through the competition in this tournament and he will be doing so in the finals as well.

Headlining this card is a Bellator Bantamweight Tournament Finals fight as Marcos “Lolo” Galvao (12-5-0) battles Luis “Betao” Nogueira (14-2-0). Marcos Galvao punched his ticket to the tournament finals when he achieved victories over Ed West and Travis Marx. Luis Nogueira captured a spot in the tournament finals with wins over Alexis Vila and Hiroshi Nakamura. This fight is an excellent way to cap off the “Summer Series”, but it will be Luis Nogueira taking the tournament.
