There will be two titles on the line this weekend as both a light heavyweight title defense and a new flyweight champion highlight this weekend’s event. Before we can get to the pay-per-view portion of the card, there are four fights airing on FX prior to the big event. The fights on FX feature the return of a UFC Ultimate Fighter alumni and a key lightweight division fight between two contenders.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Marcus “The Bama Beast†Brimage (5-1-0) competes against Jim “The Kid†Hettes (10-0-0). Marcus Brimage is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated both Stephen Bass and Maximo Blanco. Jim Hettes is also undefeated in UFC competition, with his victories coming over Alex Caceres and Nam Phan. Jim Hettes has a huge upside in his MMA career coming and that will be shown here as he picks up the victory.
Welterweights enter the cage next as Lance Benoist (6-1-0) takes on Sean “The Punisher†Pierson (12-6-0). Lance Benoist has split both of his UFC fights, defeating Matthew Riddle and suffering a defeat to Seth Baczynski. Sean Pierson ended a two fight losing streak back at UFC On FX III when he defeated Jake Hecht by unanimous decision. This is a big time opportunity for both of these fighters and it will be Sean Pierson taking advantage of that opportunity with a big win.
Up next is a lightweight division fight as Evan Dunham (13-2-0) stands across the octagon from TJ Grant (18-5-0). Evan Dunham enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with those victories coming over Shamar Bailey and Nik Lentz. TJ Grant has been undefeated since dropping to lightweight, winning two straight fights in the lightweight division. The winner of this fight should be moving onto bigger divisional fights and that fighter getting the bigger fights will be Evan Dunham.
Headlining this portion of the card is a light heavyweight division fight as Vinny “Pezao†Magalhaes (9-5-0) fights Igor “The Duke†Pokrajac (25-8-0). Vinny Magalhaes returns to the UFC after a three year absence, but he captured the M-1 Light Heavyweight Title in between appearances. Igor Pokrajac enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, most notably defeating Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 140. It will be the UFC return of Vinny Magalhaes being spoiled here as Igor Pokrajac picks up his fourth straight.
