With Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy now cancelled, the MMA spotlight will be shining on the Xtreme Fighting Championships a little more now. There is a seven fight main card airing live on AXS TV and it features a lot of great up and coming fighters. Also, the XFC will continue its tradition of great female MMA competition as Sofia Bagherdai and Sarah Maloy will fight.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as Nate Landwehr (1-0-0) sees action against Adam Townsend (1-0-0). Nate Landwehr made his professional MMA debut earlier this Summer, defeating Billy Mullins at XFC 18. Adam Townsend also made his professional MMA debut this Summer, having defeated Travis Shelton at 3FC 11. While both fighters are equal in pro experience, Adam Townsend has more overall fighting experience and that will help him get the victory.
Welterweights will hit the cage next as Drew Kennedy (4-0-0) stands across the cage from Anthony Lemon (2-0-0). Drew Kennedy will be making his XFC debut in this fight, but he has not yet gone past the second round in any of his fights. Anthony Lemon is also an undefeated fighter who has spent a little time in the King Of The Cage promotion. This is a pivotal fight in both fighters young careers, but it will be Drew Kennedy keeping his undefeated streak alive.
We drop to the bantamweight division for the next fight as Shah Bobonis (13-7-0) competes against Cornelius Godfrey (5-0-0). Shah Bobonis enters the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes a lone victory at Bellator 50. Cornelius Godfrey is an undefeated fighter who has spent the majority of his career in the Spartan FC promotion. These are two fighters who are on incredible winning streaks, but it will be Shah Bobonis keeping his winning streak going.
We remain in the bantamweight division for this next fight as Christopher Dunn (1-1-0) does battle with Joby Sanchez (3-1-0). Christopher Dunn will be looking to rebound from the first loss of his career, which came to Anthony Morgan. Joby Sanchez enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he has not suffered a defeat in well over three years. Joby Sanchez is on quite the run at the moment and that running will be continuing this coming Friday Night.
The women’s flyweight division will be featured next as Sofia Bagherdai (4-2-0) battles Sarah “KO Kid†Maloy (3-2-0). Sofia Bagherdai has only won one of her last three, with that lone victory coming over Angela Hayes at a California Xtreme Fighting event. Sarah Maloy recently ended a two fight losing streak at Invicta FC I when she defeated Michelle Gutierrez by unanimous decision. This fight should be one of the more action packed of the evening and it will be Sofia Bagherdai getting the duke.
Up next is a lightweight division fight as Chris Coggins (6-3-0) takes on Scott “Hot Sauce†Holtzman (2-0-0). Chris Coggins is coming off of an appearance at Bellator 73, where he suffered a defeat to Zach Underwood. Scott Holtzman has spent his entire career in XFC, having defeated the duo of Brandon Demastes and Matt Metts. Chris Coggins has more big fight experience than Scott Holtzman and that will carry him to victory in this one.
Headlining this card is a welterweight division fight as Lorenzo “The Borg†Borgomeo (9-4-0) faces Eric “It’s A Wrap†Reynolds (15-5-0). Lorenzo Borgomeo recently saw his four fight winning streak snapped at Milano In The Cage II, losing to Roberto Rigamonti. Eric Reynolds enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with both of those victories happening in XFC competition. This is a big main event fight for both competitors, but it will be Eric Reynolds building on his momentum with another victory.
