The seventh season of the Bellator Fighting Championships will be kicking off this Friday Night on MTV2 with a loaded card. The seventh season of Bellator kicks off with the welterweight tournament opening round fights taking place. However, there is a six fight preliminary card airing first on Spike.com with a UFC veteran stepping into the cage.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Alexandre “Popo†Bezerra (13-2-0) competes against Jeff Smith (10-1-0). Alexandre Bezerra will be looking to rebound from a season six welterweight tournament semi-final loss to Marlon Sandro. Jeff Smith enters the fight riding a ten fight winning streak, with the majority of his victories coming in the Pennsylvania Fighting Championships. Jeff Smith is a talented fighter who is way over his head in this fight as Alexandre Bezerra dominates on route to a victory.
Lightweights step into the cage next as Derrick “DK†Kennington (6-3-0) is in action against Phillipe “Super†Nover (5-4-0). Derrick Kennington has only won one of his last three, with that lone victory coming over Bellator veteran Chad Hinton. Phillipe Nover has not competed in nearly a year, which came after a Bellator 59 split decision loss to Marcin Held. Derrick Kennington is in a prime position to pull the upset in this fight and that is exactly what will be happening here.
We return to the featherweight division for the next fight as Brylan Van Artsdalen (6-4-0) does battle with Jay Haas (10-10-0). Brylan Van Artsdalen has only won one of his last four and has even lost three straight in Bellator competition. Jay Haas enters the fight riding a four fight losing streak and has not achieved a victory in well over a year. This is a must win fight for both competitors, but it will be Brylan Van Artsdalen notching the much needed victory.
A women’s flyweight division fight will be highlighted next as Munah Holland (5-1-0) faces Michelle “T-Cat†Ould (6-4-0). Munah Holland enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak, which includes a victory over the highly touted Carina Damm. Michelle Ould enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak and has fought current Bellator Women’s Flyweight Champion Zoila Gurgel. The winner of this fight may gain entry into a future women’s tournament and that fighter will be Munah Holland.
Up next is a middleweight division fight as Kelvin “The Mama’s Boy†Tiller (5-0-0) battles Plinio Cruz (5-5-0). Kelvin Tiller has won three straight fights in Bellator, most notably defeating WWE Tough Enough alumni Jeremiah Riggs. Plinio Cruz enters the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not achieved a victory in well over two years. This fight looks like it was set up for a Kelvin Tiller victory and that is exactly what will be happening in this one.
Headlining this portion of the card is a bantamweight division fight as Claudio Ledesma (6-3-0) faces Kenny “The Tooth Fairy†Foster (10-6-0). Claudio Ledesma has won two of his last three fights, but is coming off of a loss to Anthony Leone at Bellator 68. Kenny Foster ended a four fight losing streak back at Bellator 65, defeating Jay Haas by an opening round submission. This should be an exciting way to end the preliminary card and it will be Kenny Foster pulling out the big win.
