UFC ON FX V FUEL TV PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/1/2012 2:12 PM

Just a week after airing six fights live for the UFC On Fuel TV V event from the UK, another six fights will be airing on Fuel TV as part of the UFC On FX V event. This preliminary card on Fuel TV will feature four key fights in the UFC Lightweight Division, plus two other fights. The other two fights on the preliminary card feature some WEC veterans and a flyweight division encounter.

Kicking off the action is a flyweight division fight as Phil “Billy” Harris (21-9-0) competes against Darren “BC” Uyenoyama (7-3-0). Phil Harris will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he does so riding a five fight winning streak into the octagon. Darren Uyenoyama is currently undefeated in UFC competition, defeating Norifumi Yamamoto at UFC On Fox I. The majority of this fight will be contested on the ground, but it will be Phil Harris making a successful UFC debut.

Featherweights step into the cage next as Diego “The Gun” Nunes (17-3-0) is in action against Bart “Bartimus” Palaszewski (36-15-0). Diego Nunes has rotated wins and losses thus far in UFC competition, with his last fight being a loss to Dennis Siver at UFC On Fuel TV II. Bart Palaszewski will be looking to rebound from his first UFC loss, which came to Hatsu Hioki at UFC 144. This could be a must win fight for both competitors, but it will be Bart Palaszewski overpowering Diego Nunes to score a win.

A pair of lightweight division competitors are up next as Shane Roller (11-6-0) does battle with Jacob “Christmas” Volkmann (14-3-0). Shane Roller recently ended a three fight losing streak at UFC 148, defeating John Alessio by decision. Jacob Volkmann saw his five fight winning streak end at UFC 146 when he lost to Paul Sass by submission. These are two excellent submission fighters and it will be Jacob Volkmann rebounding from his last defeat.

More lightweight division action is taking place next as Dennis “Superman” Hallman (51-14-0) battles Thiago Tavares (17-4-0). Dennis Hallman is currently undefeated as a lightweight in the UFC, having defeated John Makdessi at UFC 140. Thiago Tavares enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with those victories coming over Sam Stout and Spencer Fisher. These two fighters are very similar in style, but it will be Thiago Tavares keeping his winning streak alive.

Up next is another lightweight division fight as Danny “Last Call” Castillo (14-4-0) faces Michael “The Menace” Johnson (11-6-0). Danny Castillo has won four of five in UFC competition, most notably defeating Joe Stevenson at UFC On Versus III. Michael Johnson enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, defeating both Tony Ferguson and Shane Roller. Danny Castillo is on quite the run right now and that run is going to continue with a victory on Friday Night.

Headlining this portion of the card is a lightweight division fight as Yves “Thugjitsu Master” Edwards (41-18-0) takes on Jeremy “Lil’ Heathen” Stephens (20-8-0). Yves Edwards has only won one of his last three in the UFC, with that lone victory coming over Rafaello Oliveira. Jeremy Stephens enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with those losses coming to Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone. These two are essentially battling to remain relevant in the division and it will be Jeremy Stephens doing so.
