UFC ON FX V MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/2/2012 3:24 PM

There are title implications this Friday Night as the UFC returns to the FX Network with the UFC On FX V card. The title implications will be coming in both the UFC Heavyweight Division and the UFC Flyweight Division. Also, Jay Hieron is making his long anticipated return to the UFC and “The Dentist” looks to rebound from a defeat.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Josh “The Dentist” Neer (33-11-0) competes against Justin “Fast Eddy” Edwards (7-2-0). Josh Neer has won two of his last three in the UFC, but he is coming off of a loss to Mike Pyle at UFC On FX III. Justin Edwards has only won once in the UFC, with that lone victory coming over Jorge Lopez at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 25. This should be an entertaining brawl to kick off the event, but it will be Josh Neer pulling out the victory.

We move to the flyweight division for the next fight as John “The Magician” Dodson (13-5-0) battles Jussier “Formiga” Da Silva (14-1-0). John Dodson is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated TJ Dillashaw and Tim Elliot. Jussier Da Silva enters the fight riding a five fight winning streak, with his lone career loss coming to UFC veteran Ian McCall. The winner of this fight is in line for a UFC Flyweight Title fight and the competitor getting that fight will be John Dodson.

Up next is a welterweight division fight as Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger (27-6-0) faces Jay “The Thoroughbred” Hieron (23-5-0). Jake Ellenberger saw his six fight winning streak ended at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale, losing to Martin Kampmann. Jay Hieron returns to the UFC after a near seven year absence, with his last UFC fight happening at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 2. These are two well versed wrestlers, but it will be Jake Ellenberger getting back on track in the welterweight division.

Headlining this card is a heavyweight division fight as Travis “Hapa” Browne (13-0-0) takes on Antonio “Pezao” Silva (16-4-0). Travis Browne is currently undefeated in UFC competition, most notably defeating Stefan Struve and Chad Griggs. Antonio Silva is currently winless in UFC competition, suffering a defeat to Cain Velasquez by TKO at UFC 146. This fight is easily the biggest test of Travis Browne’s career and it will be a test that the heavyweight passes.
