BELLATOR 77 SPIKE.COM PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/17/2012 4:14 PM

This coming weekend will not feature any UFC or Strikeforce action, which means the MMA world’s attention will be focused primarily on Bellator 77. The promotion does not disappoint this coming Friday Night with a card headlined by Bellator veteran Rich Clementi. The preliminary card airing live on Spike.com will feature a host of Bellator veterans and a UFC veteran in action.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as EJ “The Pretty Boy” Brooks (7-0-0) competes against Darrel “The Saint” Horcher (5-0-0). EJ Brooks has won four straight in Bellator competition, most notably defeating Mikhail Malyutin at Bellator 65. Darrel Horcher is an undefeated fighter who has spent the majority of his career in the Pennsylvania Fighting Championships. Both fighters bring impressive undefeated streaks into the cage, but it will be EJ Brooks keeping his streak intact.

Light heavyweight fighters hit the cage next as Carmelo “The Fury” Marrero (14-5-0) sees action against Lew “The Titan” Polley (11-4-0). Carmelo Marrero has won four of six since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Ryan Bader at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 18. Lew Polley recent ended a two fight losing streak at BAMMA USA VI, defeating Mike Smith by split decision. Carmelo Marrero has plenty of big fight experience and that experience will carry him to a victory on Friday Night.

A pair of middleweights will compete next as Duane Bastress (5-2-0) does battle with Lewis “The Beast” Rumsey (8-8-0). Duane Bastress has won two of three in Bellator competition, but is coming off of a loss to Jason Butcher. Lewis Rumsey is currently winless in Bellator competition, suffering a defeat to Joey Kirwan at Bellator 54. These are two fighters who are on very different career paths right now and it will be Duane Bastress staying on the right path with a win.

More lightweight action is taking place next as Cosmo “Good Boy” Alexandre (3-1-0) faces Mike Bannon (4-0-0). Cosmo Alexandre enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he has not suffered a defeat in well over a year. Mike Bannon is an undefeated fighter who has finished three of his four opponents in the opening round. This may be the breakout fight for Mike Bannon as he defeats Cosmo Alexandre in his Bellator Fighting Championships debut.

Up next is a featherweight division fight as Eric Albright (0-0-0) stands across the cage from Brett Martinez (3-0-0). Eric Albright will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did go undefeated as an amateur. Brett Martinez is an undefeated fighter who has finished all three of his opponents in the fights first round. This is a tough fight for Eric Albright in his pro debut, but it will be Brett Martinez remaining undefeated in the end.

Headlining this portion of the card is a flyweight division fight as Matthew Lozano (2-0-0) battles Dave Morgan (5-1-0). Matthew Lozano is currently undefeated as a pro and made his professional MMA debut this past Summer. Dave Morgan enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with all of those victories coming via decision. This is an interesting fight to headline the preliminary card, but it will be Dave Morgan ending his opponents undefeated streak.
