BELLATOR 78 MTV2 MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 10/25/2012 12:18 PM

While the Bellator 78 Preliminary Card was known for the controversy surrounding Zoila Gurgel, the main card of this event will be one worth checking out. This Bellator event will feature the semi-finals of the season eight welterweight tournament and a few other fights. Also, the top contender to the Bellator Lightweight Title will compete and Brian Rogers will step into the cage.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as Alvin “Kid” Robinson (12-6-0) competes against Daniel Straus (20-4-0). Alvin Robinson has won three of five since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Mark Bocek at UFC 91. Daniel Straus competes for the first time since winning the season seven lightweight tournament, he defeated Marlon Sandro in the finals. This is a big challenge for Daniel Straus before getting his title opportunity, but he will rise to the challenge with a victory on Friday Night.

We move to the middleweight division for the next fight as Brian “The Predator” Rogers (9-4-0) battles Dominique “Non-Stop Action Packed” Steele (6-2-0). Brian Rogers made it to the semi-finals of the season seven middleweight tournament before losing to Andreas Spang. Dominique Steele saw his six fight winning streak snapped at Pure MMA: The Beginning when he was defeated by UFC veteran Dave Branch. This should be an action packed fight from bell-to-bell, but it will be Brian Rogers getting back on track with a victory.

Up next is a welterweight tournament semi-final fight as Andrey “Spartan” Koreshkov (11-0-0) takes on Maris “The Whitemare” Zaromskis (19-6-0). Andrey Koreshkov advanced to the second round of the tournament by defeating Jordan Smith at Bellator 74. Marius Zaromskis made his way to the tournament semi-finals when he defeated Nordine Taleb at Bellator 74. This is a great pairing of international fighters, but it will be Andrey Koreshkov making it to the finals.

Headlining this card is another welterweight tournament semi-final encounter as Lyman “Cyborg” Good (13-2-0) faces Michail “The Lonely Wolf” Tsarev (24-2-0). Lyman Good punched his ticket to the tournament’s second round when he defeated Jim Wallhead at Bellator 74. Michail Tsarev stayed alive in the tournament when he defeated Tim Welch by submission at Bellator 74. There is a big reason why Michail Tsarev has had such a long winning streak and he will show why with a victory in the main event.
