This coming weekend will feature the highly anticipated debut of the World Series Of Fighting, but the MMA weekend will kick off with Bellator 79. The Bellator 79 Preliminary Card is loaded with fights this Friday Night, as there are six fights total being featured on the card. There will be several Bellator veterans in action and a plethora of international talent stepping into the cage.
Kicking off the action is a heavyweight division fight as Josh Appelt (7-2-0) does battle with Ed Carpenter (5-3-0). Josh Appelt enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with two of those victories coming in the opening round. Ed Carpenter enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not achieved a victory in over a year. These are two fighters riding two very different streaks, but it will be Josh Appelt keeping his winning streak alive.
Lightweights will step into the cage next as Jonny “The King Of Late Night†Carson (10-5-0) competes against Guillaume “Il Toro†DeLorenzi (9-1-0). Jonny Carson recently ended a two fight losing streak at Xtreme Fight League VI, defeating Codale Ford by submission. Guillaume DeLorenzi enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Dale Hartt. Jonny Carson is an excellent MMA prospect, but it will be Guillaume DeLorenzi picking up the win in this one.
A pair of featherweights will battle next as Magomedrasul Khasbulaev (17-5-0) is in action against Josh “The Platypus†Pulsifer (17-7-0). Magomedrasul Khasbulaev is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Nayeb Hazem by TKO at Bellator 76. Josh Pulsifer has only won one of his last four, with that lone victory coming over Gabriel Vasquez at Rage At The Osage. Magomedrasul Khasbulaev is known as a finisher and he will get another finish over Josh Pulsifer on Friday Night.
More heavyweight action will take place next as Vitaly Minakov (9-0-0) takes on Vladimir Starcencov (2-0-0). Vitaly Minakov is an undefeated fighter who holds victories over UFC veterans Fabiano Scherner and Eddie Sanchez. Vladimir Starcencov made his professional MMA debut in October 2011 and he has finished both of his opponents in the opening round. This is an interesting battle of undefeated fighters, but it will be Vitaly Minakov keeping his undefeated streak alive in the end.
Up next is a welterweight division fight as Marcus “Lelo†Aurelio (6-1-0) battles Chris “The Beast†Franck (3-3-0). Marcus Aurelio enters the fight riding a six fight winning streak, with the majority of those victories coming in the Battlefield Fight League promotion. Chris Franck has won two straight entering this fight, but did start his MMA career winning one of four. Marcus Aurelio may not be as dominant as the UFC veteran sharing the same name, but he will have a successful Bellator debut.
Headlining this portion of the card is a heavyweight division fight as Kevin “Concrete†Asplund (15-2-0) faces Alexei Kudin (14-4-0). Kevin Asplund is currently winless in Bellator competition, having lost to Brett Rogers by TKO at Bellator 71. Alexei Kudin enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak and has spent the majority of his MMA career competing in Russia. These are two fighters who could easily compete in a future heavyweight tournament, but it will be a victorious night for Kevin Asplund.
