BELLATOR 80 SPIKE.COM PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 11/6/2012 9:31 AM

The weekend will be about the UFC’s debut in China, but as usual, the MMA weekend will begin with some Bellator action. This Friday Night’s event will be headlined by the return of former Bellator Featherweight Champion Joe Warren. This event’s preliminary card will have some good action on it as well, including UFC veteran Joe Vedepo fighting.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Ryan DeRocher (3-4-0) does battle with Taylor Krahl (3-1-0). Ryan DeRocher is currently winless under the Bellator veteran, having suffered a defeat to Julien Williams at Bellator 72. Taylor Krahl rebounded from his first professional MMA loss by defeating Justin Blouvet at Fight Time MMA 9. These are two fighters on two different paths in MMA right now, but it will be Taylor Krahl staying on the right path with a victory.

Middleweights will step into the cage next as Mike “El Gringo Diablo” Bernhard (9-4-0) competes against Joe “The Doctor” Vedepo (13-5-0). Mike Bernhard enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak and he has not achieved a victory in over two years. Joe Vedepo has only won one of his last three fights, with that lone victory coming over Kenneth Allen. Joe Vedepo may be having a rough time in MMA right now, but he will right the ship by achieving a win on Friday Night.

We move to the featherweight division for the next fight as Sky “El Chivo Loco” Moiseichik (2-1-0) is in action against “The Heartbreak Kid” Shanon Slack (4-1-0). Sky Moiseichik has fought three times as a professional and none of the fights have gone past the opening round. Shanon Slack will be looking to rebound from his first MMA defeat, which came to Matt McCook at Bellator 72. Shanon Slack’s last defeat was a little controversial, but there will be no controversy when he gains a victory this time around.

A lightweight division fight happens next as Cosmo “Good Boy” Alexandre (4-1-0) battles Josh “Quay” Quayhagen (6-0-0). Cosmo Alexandre enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak and all of his professional fights have happened in Bellator. Josh Quayhagen is an undefeated fighter who has already defeated Cosmo Alexandre, that happened back at Bellator 52. Cosmo Alexander has improved a lot since that initial encounter and he will even the score with Josh Quayhagen.

Up next is a welterweight division fight as Robert Otani (3-2-0) stands across the cage from Cristiano “Soldier” Souza (5-0-0). Robert Otani returned to MMA this past June after a three year layoff, defeating Javier Torres by knockout. Cristiano Souza is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated John Kelly at Bellator 50. Despite being successful after a very long layoff, Robert Otani cannot be back in form yet and Cristiano Souza will gain victory to keep his undefeated streak alive.

Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division fight as Brandon Girtz (7-2-0) faces Mike Quinones (3-0-0). Brandon Girtz has won two of his last three fights and has fought against UFC veteran Alvin Robinson previously. Mike Quinones is an undefeated fighter who is coming off of a victory over Alejandro Gomez at Fight Time MMA 9. This fight is easily the biggest test of Mike Quinones career, but he will fail the test as Brandon Girtz picks up the victory.
