UFC 154 FACEBOOK PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 11/14/2012 6:18 PM

This coming Saturday Night will see the long anticipated return of UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre to the octagon. The long reigning UFC Welterweight Champion is all set to battle UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit in a title unification fight. There is an astounding four fights airing of Facebook prior to the pay-per-view, including an interesting welterweight division fight.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Darren Elkins (14-2-0) competes against “Super” Steven Siler (21-9-0). Darren Elkins has won four of five fights in the UFC, most notably defeating Diego Brandao by decision at UFC 146. Steven Siler is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Josh Clopton, Cole Miller and Joey Gambino. This is a particularly interesting fight in the featherweight division, but it will be Steven Siler remaining undefeated in the UFC.

We move to the bantamweight division fight as Azamat “Tough Guy” Gashimov (7-1-0) battles “The Pride Of El Salvador” Ivan Menjivar (24-9-0). Azamat Gashimov enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, finishing both opponents in the opening round. Ivan Menjivar is looking to rebound from his first UFC defeat, which came at the hands of Mike Easton at UFC 148. Ivan Menjivar is a far more experienced fighter than his foe and he will rebound from that UFC defeat.

Up next is a welterweight division fight as John “The One” Maguire (18-4-0) faces Matt “Deep Waters” Riddle (6-3-0). John Maguire will be looking to rebound from his first UFC defeat, which came to John Hathaway at UFC On Fuel TV IV. Matt Riddle is coming off of a suspension for a positive drug test, which came after a UFC 149 fight against Chris Clements. Being a short notice fighter is going to hurt Matt Riddle in this one as John Maguire earns his biggest career victory.

Headlining this portion of the card is a featherweight division as Antonio “Pato” Carvalho (14-5-0) takes on Rodrigo Damm (10-5-0). Antonio Carvalho is looking to build on his first UFC victory, which came over Daniel Pineda back at UFC 149. Rodrigo Damm is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Anistavio Medeiros De Figueirdo at UFC 147. This is easily the biggest fight in both fighters career, but it will be Antonio Carvalho getting the big victory.
