FIVE ROUNDS WITH UFC ON FUEL TV VI

By David Tees on 11/15/2012 2:09 PM

Cung Le will forever be remembered for having one of the best knockouts in UFC history in a moment that capped off an excellent UFC On Fuel TV VI event. In the co-main event, Thiago Silva returned to his status as a top contender in the UFC Light Heavyweight Division. Also, Dong Hyun Kim dominated Paulo Thiago, Takanori Gomi got a big victory and we had to get up early for this one.

Round One: Ace In The Hole

Most people, myself including, thought that Rich Franklin would dominate Cung Le on route to a victory in the UFC’s debut in China. However, Cung Le would prove everybody wrong by knocking out Rich franklin with a “lucky punch” to score the biggest victory of his career. The more shocking thing about the victory is that Cung Le pulled out the victory with a foot injury that hampered his training. If Cung Le can find a way to remain healthy, he could very well challenge for the UFC Middleweight Title someday.

Next Round For Cung Le: Brian Stann, Jake Shields or Court McGee

Next Round For Rich Franklin: Hector Lombard/Rousimar Palhares or Alan Belcher/Yushin Okami loser

Round Two: The Streak Ends

Stanislav Nedkov was a victory away from moving up into bigger fights in the UFC, but then he found himself standing opposite Thiago Silva in the octagon. Fast forward to the third round of their fight, Thiago Silva finally put Stanislav Nedkov to the ground and submitted him with an arm triangle choke. Thiago Silva now puts himself back into position in an ultra-thin light heavyweight division, currently headed by Jon Jones. Stanislav Nedkov is still a player in the UFC Light Heavyweight Division, but he will need to do some work on his ground game first.

Next Round For Thiago Silva: Matt Hamill, Ryan Jimmo or Jimi Manuwa

Next Round For Stanislav Nedkov: Anthony Perosh, Vinny Magalhaes or James Te Huna

Round Three: The Stun Gun Dominates

Prior to UFC On Fuel TV VI, most fans probably remembered Dong Hyun Kim for his embarrassing defeat to Damian Maia at UFC 148. Well, Dong Hyun Kim redeemed himself with a very dominant performance over Paulo Thiago at UFC On Fuel TV VI. From the opening bell to the final bell, Dong Hyun Kim destroyed Paulo Thiago with his excellent wrestling skills. If Dong Hyun Kim can continue dominating foe’s with his wrestling game, than a shot at the UFC Welterweight Title is not out of the question.

Next Round For Dong Hyun Kim: Thiago Alves, Siyar Bahadurzada or John Hathaway

Next Round For Paulo Thiago: James Head, Chris Clements or TJ Waldburger

Round Four: The Fireball Kid Is Back

Controversially or not, Takanori Gomi returned to the win column last weekend with a decision victory over Mac Danzig. Takanori Gomi used his excellent striking skills and underrated ground game to squeal by the UFC Ultimate Fighter champion. Mac Danzig may have been upset with his loss, but he did have his moments to close out the fight before the final bell. If Takanori Gomi can return to his form in PRIDE, then he could become a threat in the UFC Lightweight Division.

Next Round For Takanori Gomi: Terry Etim, Evan Dunham or TJ Grant

Next Round For Mac Danzig: Jamie Varner, Danny Castillo or Anthony Njokuani

Round Five: There Is An 8AM?

Usually when I cover events on PWInsiderXtra.com, I start coverage around 6PM EST., but that changed dramatically for this event. Instead, coverage on this website of UFC On Fuel TV VI began live at 7:40AM EST. for myself and anybody else covering the event. While it was definitely an interesting change of pace, I hope it is a trend that does not really continue in the future. At the end of the day, the UFC put on a great event and it was done in just enough time to catch the opening kickoff of some college football games.

Next Round For UFC In China: A return in 2013
