The title picture in the UFC Welterweight Division will be a lot clearer tonight when Georges St. Pierre and Carlos Condit unify their titles. A new top contender will be crowned in the division as well when Martin Kampmann battles Johny Hendricks. Also, Francis Carmont looks for a big victory and Mark Hominick looks to get back to his old self again.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Mark “The Machine†Hominick (20-11-0) does battle with Pablo “The Scarecrow†Garza (11-3-0). Mark Hominick enters the fight riding a three fight losing streak and has not won a fight in nearly two years. Pablo Garza enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, losing to both Dustin Poirier and Dennis Bermudez. This is essentially a fight to avoid the pink slip and it will be Mark Hominick avoiding that terrible pink slip.
We move to the middleweight division for the next fight as “Filthy†Tom Lawlor (8-4-0) faces Francis “Limitless†Carmont (19-7-0). Tom Lawlor has won two of his last three entering this fight, most notably defeating Patrick Cote at UFC 121. Francis Carmont is currently undefeated in UFC competition, defeating Chris Camozzi, Magnus Cedenblad and Karlos Vemola. This will be the breakthrough fight in the UFC for Francis Carmont as he gets a big victory on Saturday Night.
Up next is a welterweight division fight as Johny “Bigg Rigg†Hendricks (13-1-0) battles Martin “Hitmanâ€Kampmann (20-5-0). Johny Hendricks enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak, last defeating Josh Koscheck at UFC On Fox III. Martin Kampmann enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, most notably defeating Jake Ellenberger at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale. These are two of the best uncrowned champions in the division, but it will be Johny Hendricks earning a title shot.
Headlining this card is a UFC welterweight Title Unification Fight as UFC Welterweight Champion Georges “Rush†St. Pierre (22-2-0) takes on UFC Interim Welterweight Champion “The Natural Born Killer†Carlos Condit (28-5-0). Georges St. Pierre has not competed since April 2011 after suffering a serious knee injury while training. Carlos Condit won the interim welterweight title back at UFC 143 when he defeated Nick Diaz by unanimous decision. The long injury layoff is going to hurt Georges St. Pierre in this one as Carlos Condit notches the big victory.
