UFC ON FX VII MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 1/18/2013 4:53 PM

The next potential challenger to the UFC Middleweight Title may be decided on Saturday Night when Michael Bisping faces Victor Belfort. The UFC’s return to Brazil will also feature other great Brazilian fighters like Gabriel Gonzaga and Thiago Tavares. Also, there is a big fight in the heavyweight division and a UFC Ultimate Fighter alumni looks for a victory.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division as Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov (18-0-0) competes against Thiago Tavares (17-4-0). Nurmagomedov is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated both Kamal Shalorus and Gleison Tibau. Tavares has won three of his last four in UFC competition, most notably defeating Sam Stout at UFC 142. Nurmagomedov is getting the biggest test of his career in this fight, but he will be passing the test to remain undefeated.

Heavyweights will be stepping into the cage next as Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga (13-6-0) battles Ben Rothwell (32-8-0). Gonzaga is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, having defeated Ednaldo Oliveira at UFC 142. Rothwell has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with his last fight being a victory over Brendan Schaub at UFC 145. Rothwell is trying to re-invent himself for the hundredth time in this fight, but it will not be enough as Gonzaga wins his second straight.

Up next is a middleweight division fight as CB “The Doberman” Dollaway (12-4-0) takes on Daniel Sarafian (7-2-0). Dollaway is looking to build on the biggest victory of his career, which came over Jason Miller back at UFC 146. Sarafian enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak and this weekend’s fight will mark his official UFC debut. Sarafian is a talented fighter, but he is not talented enough to defeat Dollaway this coming Saturday Night.

Headlining this card is a middleweight division fight as “The Phenom” Vitor Belfort (21-10-0) faces Michael “The Count” Bisping (23-4-0). Belfort is coming off of a failed UFC Light Heavyweight Title opportunity to Jon Jones back at UFC 152. Bisping has won five of his last six fights, with his lone loss coming to multi-time title challenger Chael Sonnen. Bisping earns himself a title shot if he earns the victory and he will be getting that title shot after Saturday Night.
