BELLATOR 86 SPIKE TV MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 1/22/2013 10:52 PM

Following last week’s successful debut on Spike TV, Bellator returns to action this Thursday Night with a welterweight title fight. If a welterweight title fight was not enough, MMA fans will be getting to see the Bellator debut of King Mo. Also, the promotion will kick off the season eight welterweight tournament, which includes a UFC veteran in action.

(Note: A tournament fight between Marius Zaromskis and Brent Weedman has been moved to the main card, the fight was previewed on the preliminary card portion of Bellator 86, which was posted yesterday on PWInsiderXtra.com.)

Kicking off the action is a welterweight tournament opening round fight as Ben “Killa B” Saunders (14-5-2) competes against Koffi “The Lion King” Adzitso (18-9-0). Saunders has rotated wins and losses in his last four fights, with his last fight being a victory over Brian Warren. Adzitso has won five of his last six entering the tournament, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Kevin Burns. Saunders has been very inconsistent since his UFC release, which is why it will be Adzitso advancing in the tournament.

Another welterweight tournament opening round fight is up next as Douglas “The Phenom” Lima (22-5-0) battles Michail “The Lone Wolf” Tsarev (24-3-0). Lima has won ten of his last eleven fights, which includes victories over UFC veterans Terry Martin and Ben Saunders. Tsarev made it to the semi-finals of the season seven welterweight tournament, losing to Lyman Good at Bellator 78. This fight will easily be the show stealer of the card, but it will be Lima advancing to the tourney semi-finals.

Up next is a light heavyweight tournament opening round fight as Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (8-1-0-1NC) faces Przemyslaw “Misiek” Mysiala (16-7-0). King Mo competes for the first time since his suspension from a failed drug test, which came after a fight against Lorenz Larkin. Mysiala has won two of his last three entering the fight and holds a victory over UFC veteran Ross Pointon. This has easily been the most hyped debut in the history of Bellator and King Mo will reward the promotions hype with a victory.

Headlining this card is a Bellator Welterweight Title Fight as champion “Funky” Ben Askren (10-0-0) takes on Karl “Psycho” Amoussou (16-4-2). Askren has already defended the championship twice, defeating both Jay Hieron and Douglas Lima. Amoussou won the season six tournament by defeating Chris Lozano, David Rickels and Bryan Baker respectively. Askren has been dominant as champion due to his wrestling and that wrestling will carry him to his third successful title defense.
