UFC ON FOX VI MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 1/25/2013 10:18 PM

The UFC started the year off with a big event last weekend with UFC On FX VII and the year continues for the UFC with another title bout on Fox. The UFC Flyweight Championship will be defended in the headliner when Demetrious Johnson defends against John Dodson. Also, Quinton Jackson will have his UFC swansong and a top contender to the UFC Lightweight Title may be determined.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Erik “New Breed” Koch (13-1-0) competes against Ricardo “The Bully” Lamas (12-2-0). Koch is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Raphael Assuncao and Jonathan Brookins. Lamas is also undefeated in the UFC, with his victories coming over Matt Grice, Cub Swanson and Hatsu Hioki. The winner of this fight could find themselves in title contention and it will be Ricardo Lamas getting that shot.

We move to the lightweight division for the next fight as Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (19-4-0-1NC) battles Anthony “Showtime” Pettis (15-2-0). Cerrone has won six of seven in UFC competition, most notably defeating Melvin Guillard at UFC 150. Pettis enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, but the fighter has not competed in nearly a year. A potential UFC Lightweight Title opportunity is on the line in this fight and it will be Donald Cerrone getting that shot.

Up next is a light heavyweight division fight as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (32-10-0) takes on Glover Teixeira (19-2-0). Jackson will be competing for the final time in the UFC, with his first appearance being at UFC 67 in February 2007. Teixeira is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated both Kyle Kingsbury and Fabio Maldonado. This will not be a fairytale ending for “Rampages” story in the UFC as Glover Teixeira notches the biggest victory of his career.

Headlining this card is a UFC Flyweight Title bout as champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson (16-2-1) faces John “The Magician” Dodson (14-5-0). Johnson became the first ever UFC Flyweight Champion back at UFC 152 when he defeated Joseph Benavidez in a tournament final. Dodson earned an opportunity at the gold when he defeated Jussier Da Silva by TKO at UFC On FX V. This fight could easily be the fastest fight in the long history of the UFC, but it will be Demetrious Johnson holding onto the gold.
