LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 17 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 1/29/2013 10:37 AM

In between top notch offerings from both Bellator and the UFC will be the Legacy Fighting Championships, which has a main card airing live on AXS TV. Unfortunately, there is no broadcast plans for the five fight preliminary card that will be happening as well. Either way, the preliminary card will feature ten fighters looking to make their impact on the MMA stage.

Kicking off the action is a light heavyweight division fight as Marco Hernandez (2-1-0) competes against Cameron Martin (1-0-0). Hernandez will be competing for the first time in 2013, but has finished both of his opponents in the opening round. Martin made his professional MMA debut in April 2012, defeating Jesse Riley by submission in the opening round. Hernandez has been more active and has a slight experience edge over Martin, so an undefeated streak will be coming to an end.

Bantamweight action will be happening next as William Medrano (0-0-0) stands across the cage from Brandon Ruiz (2-0-0). Medrano will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight after winning two of six fights as an amateur. Ruiz is an undefeated fighter who returned to action after a nine year layoff at a Kickass Productions event, defeating Van Vo by submission. It will be interesting to see what Ruiz still has left in the gas tank, but he will remain undefeated in the end.

A featherweight division fight is up next as Ernest De La Cruz (1-1-0) does battle with Jamall Emmers (1-1-0). De La Cruz picked up his first professional victory at an October 2012 Kickass Productions event, defeating Johnny Ray Rodriguez. Emmers will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came at the hands of Matt Mazurek at an ABG Promotions event. De La Cruz has just a little more momentum than his opponent, which is why he will get his second victory on Friday Night.

Up next is a welterweight division fight as Melvin Jordan (0-0-0) is ready to battle Christopher Lopez (0-0-0). Jordan is making his professional MMA debut in this fight, he did compete as an amateur prior to turning pro. Jordan will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, he also competed as an amateur as well. These fights between two fighters making their debuts are always a pick ‘em, but it will be Lopez winning when it’s all said and done.

Headlining this portion of the card is a light heavyweight division fight as Daniel Jolly (2-0-0) faces Alex Madrid (2-1-0). Jolly is an undefeated fighter who has spent his entire career in Kickass Productions, defeating both Andre Kavanaugh and Matt Jones. Madrid is currently winless in Legacy FC competition, suffering a defeat to Alfredo Leija at Legacy Fighting Championships 16. Jolly has been on quite the roll since his professional MMA debut last year and he will remain undefeated by beating Madrid.
