With a trio of MMA events this weekend, the Bellator Fighting Championships will be kicking everything off with a big Thursday Night event. The event will feature both a bantamweight title fight and the start of the season eight middleweight tournament. The preliminary card is not too shabby as well, with a middleweight tournament fight taking place on Spike.com.
Kicking off the action is a heavyweight division fight as Mont “Night Train†McMullens (2-3-0) does battle against David Mejia (4-0-0). McMullens has won two of his last three fights and is coming off of a two fight run in the Fight Lab promotion. Mejia is coming off of a very long break between fights, but has finished three of four opponents in the opening round. It is the fighter with a poor record versus an inactive fighter, but it will be the undefeated Fejia taking the victory.
Middleweights will step into the cage next as Aaron “Tex†Johnson (11-10-0-1NC) competes against Brennan Ward (5-0-0). Johnson has won four of his last five fights, but his last fight is a loss to UFC veteran Rodney Wallace. Ward is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Sam McCoy back at Bellator 81. Johnson is easily the most experienced fight that Ward has faced, but Ward will keep his undefeated streak alive in the end.
A middleweight tournament opening round fight is up next as Sultan Aliev (8-0-0) is in action against Mikkel Parlo (9-0-0). Aliev is an undefeated fighter who has not had a fight go the distance in nearly two years, with the last one happening in July 2011. Parlo is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Jarred Combs back at Bellator 78. Somebodies “0†has to go in this fight and it will be Parlo making the “0†of Aliev go away when it’s all said and done.
We move to the light heavyweight division for the next fight as Kyle Bolt (6-2-0) takes on Joseph Pacheco (3-0-0). Bolt enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which includes a victory over Jeremy Rosales at International Fighting Championships 29. Pacheco is an undefeated fighter who has yet to see any of his professional fights go past the opening round. Bolt has seen far better competition than his opponent and that experience will gain him the victory on Thursday Night.
Up next is a welterweight division fight as Johnny “Buck Nasty†Buck (11-8-0) battles Chris “College†Mierzwiak (4-2-0). Buck enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak and once competed against UFC veteran Luigi Fioravanti. Mierzwiak has rotated wins and losses in his last five fights, plus he once competed in the Strikeforce promotion. These are two fighters looking to break into the next level of MMA competition and it will be Buck getting to that level.
Headlining this portion of the card is a bantamweight division fight as Nathan Davis (3-0-0) faces Tim “The Terror†Goodwin (7-3-0). Davis will be competing for the first time in eight months, but is still undefeated as a professional MMA fighter. Goodwin will be competing for the second time already this year, already defeating Matthew Trab at a January Conflict MMA Promotions event. Goodwin has been the more active fighter as of late, which is why he will win his eighth professional fight.
