BELLATOR 89 SPIKE TV MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 2/12/2013 1:45 PM

The long MMA week will end with a title fight at UFC On Fuel TV VII, but it also starts off with a title fight at Bellator 89. That Bellator title shot will happen in the bantamweight division as champion Eduardo Dantas defends against Marcos Galvao. Also, the season eight middleweight tournament begins and the tournament features a former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion.

Kicking off the action is a middleweight tournament opening round fight as Doug “The Rhino” Marshall (15-6-0) competes against Andreas “Sweet Swede” Spang (8-2-0). Marshall is a former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion and is currently undefeated in Bellator competition. Spang made it all the way to the finals of the season seven middleweight tournament before losing to Maiquel Falcao. These are two of the better strikers in the entire tournament, but it will be Marshall making it to the semi-finals.

More middleweight tournament action takes place next as Brett “Fudoshin” Cooper (17-7-0) battles Norman Paraisy (10-2-0). Cooper will enter the tournament on the strength of a four fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Joe Doerkson. Paraisy competed in the season seven middleweight tournament, losing to Maiquel Falcao in the first round. Cooper has been looking unstoppable as of late and his roll will continue on Thursday Night with a victory.

Up next is another middleweight tournament opening round fight as Dan “Cosmo” Cramer (9-3-0) faces Brian “The Professional Predator” Rogers (10-4-0). Cramer has won six of eight fights in Bellator competition, but this will be the first time he competed in a tournament. Rogers made it to the semi-finals of the season seven middleweight tournament before losing to Andreas Spang. Rogers is one of the most exciting fighters in all of Bellator and he will show why as he advances to the second round.

Headlining this card is a Bellator Bantamweight Title fight as champion Eduardo “Dudu” Dantas (14-3-0) defends against Marcos “Loro” Galvao (13-5-1). Dantas won the championship by defeating Zack Makovsky as Bellator 65, this will be his first title defense. Galvao earned an opportunity at the gold when he won the season seven tournament, defeating Luis Nogueira in the finals. These two fighters train at the same gym, but it will be Dantas holding onto his championship in the end.
