This coming weekend is another big weekend of MMA events as Bellator, Xtreme Fighting Championships and the UFC are all vying for the spotlight. Like usual, the action will be kicking off this Thursday Night with another card from the Bellator Fighting Championships. The preliminary card is pretty well stacked as well, including a WEC veteran stepping into the Bellator cage.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as “The Heartbreak Kid†Shanon Slack (5-1-0) does battle with Josh “El Cabron†Tyler (2-0-0). Slack has won two of three in Bellator competition, last defeating Sky Moiseichik back at Bellator 80. Tyler is an undefeated fighter who has not competed in well over a year, defeating Andrew Carrillo at a Bobish’s Ultimate Cage Battles promotion. Slack has looked pretty dominant under the Bellator banner and that will continue as he ends his opponents undefeated streak.
Featherweights will be competing next as Chase “The Rage†Beebe (24-8-1) competes against Travis “T-Train†Marx (19-4-0-1NC). Beebe enters the fight riding a six fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Chris Tickle. Marx made it to the semi-finals of the season seven bantamweight tournament before losing to Marcos Galvao. This fight would have been on the main card if it wasn’t for all the tournament fights, but it will be Beebe winning either way.
A pair of welterweights will compete next as Jesse Juarez (18-8-0) is in action against Jordan “Mata El†Smith (17-4-1). Juarez has won three of his last four fights, which includes a main event victory over Manuel Rodriguez. Smith is currently winless under the Bellator veteran, with his defeats coming to David Rickels and Andrey Koreshkov. Smith has not won a fight in nearly a year and that streak will continue on Thursday Night as Juarez gets the win.
Another lightweight division fight is up next as “Dangerous†David Allred (11-4-0) battles Sean Powers (6-3-0). Allred enters the fight riding a six fight winning streak, which includes a run in the Jeremy Horn’s Elite Fight Night promotion. Powers enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, but has not had any of his professional MMA fights go past the second round. Allred is looking like a star of the rise with each passing day and he will gain the victory in his Bellator debut.
Up next is a heavyweight division fight as Trevor Carlson (6-1-0) steps into the cage against Trevor “The Punisher†Davinney (10-5-0). Carlson will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came at the hands of Sean O’Connell. Davinney is currently undefeated in Bellator competition, having defeated Matt Van Buren at Bellator 82. These are two fighters who may find themselves on future Bellator tournaments, but it will be Davinney winning on this night.
Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division fight as Lionel Lanham (4-1-0) faces Joe Rodriguez (3-4-0). Lanham has been competing as a professional MMA fighter for nearly two years and has yet to have a fight go past the opening round. Rodriguez has won three of his last four fights, but still enters the fight riding a poor record as a professional fighter. Barring a major upset, Lanham should easily walk away with the victory against the overmatched Rodriguez.
