While Bellator is bringing MMA fans a tournament final and the UFC is giving fans the first female fight in the promotions history, the XFC will be giving us “Hot Sauce.†That’s because the ultra-popular Scott “Hot Sauce†Holtzman will be headlining the promotions latest offering on AXS TV. Also, a UFC veteran will see cage time and a pair of female fighters will be looking to leave their mark on this important weekend.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Nate “The Great†Landwehr (2-0-0) competes against D’Juan Owens (6-4-0). Landwehr has spent his all too short professional MMA career in the XFC promotion, defeating both Billy Mullins and Chris Wright. Owens just fought a little over a month ago, defeating Ian Rammel at the Cage Madness 22 event in January. This fight is easily the biggest test of Landwehr’s career thus far, but it will be a test that the fighter passes.
A pair of welterweights will battle next as Jeremy Severn (0-0-0) will be competing against Nick Smith (2-0-0). Severn will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did win two of three as an amateur fighter. Smith is currently undefeated in his young MMA career, with both of his victories coming in the Fight Lab promotion. Smith has yet to lose a fight, as a professional or as an amateur, that streak will be continuing this Friday Night.
Flyweights will be doing battle next as D’Angelo Bynum (0-0-0) will stand across the cage from Jimmy “The Prowler†Fowler (5-1-0). Bynum will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did go undefeated as an amateur fighter. Fowler will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, but has yet to have a professional fight go past the opening round. Bynum may have gone undefeated as an amateur, but not as a professional as Fowler spoils his professional debut.
More welterweight division action will be happening next as Cory “The Real Deal†Hill (6-5-0) does battle against Roger “The Leprechaun†Carroll (10-8-0). Hill has won four of seven since his UFC release, which came after he suffered a broken leg against Dale Hartt at UFC Fights For The Troops I. Carroll has only won one of his last four fights, with that lone victory coming over Josh Eagans at an Imperial Fighting event. These are two fighters who are in need of a victory in a bad way, but it will be Hill picking up the much needed victory.
The lone female bantamweight division fight is up next as Pearl Gonzalez (0-1-0) battles Suzie “La China†Montero (1-1-0). Gonzalez made her professional MMA debut in February 2012, suffering a defeat to Munah Holland at a Ring Of Combat event. Montero will be looking to rebound from her first professional MMA defeat, which came at the hands of Jessamyn Duke at Invicta FC II. These are two fighters who have a lot of fighting ahead of them, but it will be Montero getting the victory on this night.
Up next is a welterweight division fight as Joseph Corneroli (3-0-0) takes on Ricky “The Sniper†Rainey (4-1-0). Corneroli is currently undefeated as a professional, but has seen two of his three fights go the distance thus far. Rainey has split both of his fights in XFC competition, defeating Donald Wallace and suffering a defeat to Johnny Buck. This fight could easily be the show stealer of the entire event, but it will be Rainey ending the undefeated streak of his opponent.
Headlining this card is a lightweight division fight as Jason “The Ronin†Hicks (5-0-0) faces Scott “Hot Sauce†Holtzman (3-0-0). Hicks is an undefeated fighter who has only seen one of his five professional fights go the distance thus far. Holtzman is another undefeated fighter like his foe, with none of his fights going past the second round. This is a truly interesting fight for MMA fans to keep an eye on, but it will be Holtzman remaining undefeated in the end.
