This weekend has many great shows from both the Xtreme Fighting Championships and Bellator, but nothing can top the historical importance of UFC 157. Obviously, this event will be marking the first time two female competitors have ever competed inside the famed octagon. The fights airing on FX show just how loaded this card will be, including a key fight in the heavyweight division.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as Caros “The Future†Fodor (7-2-0) does battle against Sam “Hands Of Stone†Stout (18-8-1). Fodor will be making his UFC debut in this fight after a strong run in Strikeforce, where he won five of six fights. Stout has rotated wins and losses in his last four fights, with his last fight being a defeat to John Makdessi at UFC 154. Fodor looked impressive during his time in Strikeforce, but Stout is far too good at the striking game and he will get the victory.
We move to the featherweight division for the next fight as Dennis “The Menace†Bermudez (9-3-0) faces Matt “The Real One†Grice (15-4-0). Bermudez enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with those victories coming over Pablo Garza and Tommy Hayden. Grice has split both of his fights in his second UFC run, defeating Leonard Garcia and suffering a defeat to Ricardo Lamas. Bermudez is looking like a featherweight to watch in the future and he will show why with a victory on Saturday Night.
Up next is a lightweight division fight as Mike “Maverick†Chiesa (8-0-0) takes on Anton Kuivanen (17-5-0). Chiesa will be competing for the first time since winning the UFC Ultimate Fighter 15, where he defeated Al Iaquinta in the finals. Kuivanen has split both of his UFC fights, defeating Mitch Clarke and has suffered a defeat to Justin Salas. This is a tough test for Chiesa after his run on the UFC Ultimate Fighter, but the fighter will pass the test to remain undefeated.
Headlining this portion of the card is a heavyweight division fight as Lavar “Big†Johnson (17-6-0) battles Brendan “The Hybrid†Schaub (8-3-0). Johnson has won two of three in UFC competition, most notably defeating Pat Barry by knockout at UFC On Fox III. Schaub enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak, with those defeats coming to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Ben Rothwell. This is a must win fight for Schaub, but it will be Johnson out striking him to get his third victory in the UFC.
