LEGACY FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 18 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 2/26/2013 4:03 PM

In between events from Bellator and the UFC is an event from the Legacy Fighting Championships that features two title fights. Legacy FC is quickly becoming one of the best promotions to keep an eye on and this Friday Night’s card is no exception. The preliminary card is worth a look as well, with six fights featuring some good up and coming MMA talent.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Eric Valdez (0-0-0) competes against Edgar Juarez (0-0-0). Valdez will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but did win one of two as an amateur fighter. Juarez will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did achieve four victories as an amateur. Juarez has been the more active fight during their times in the amateur circuit, which he why he will have a successful pro MMA debut.

A pair of welterweights are set to collide next as Kaileb Cummins (2-0-0) does battle against Justin Murray (3-3-0). Cummins has spent his entire MMA career thus far in the Legacy FC promotion, defeating Levi West and Patrick Greene. Murray enters the fight riding a two fight losing streak and has not achieved an MMA victory in nearly two years. Cummins has looked good thus far in his young MMA career and he will remain undefeated with a victory on Friday Night.

Light heavyweights will be battling next as Jermaine Anugwom (0-1-0) steps into the cage against Chris “The Celtic Tiger” Reed (4-2-0). Anugwom is currently winless as a professional MMA fighter, suffering a defeat to Larry Crowe at Legacy FC VII. Reed has only won one of his last three entering the fight, with his lone victory coming over Jeremy McCombs. Anugwom has got a tall task ahead of him, but it will be Reed rebounding from his last fight to get a victory here.

We move to the bantamweight division for the next fight as David Armas (3-5-0) battles Gerzan Chaw (2-2-0). Armas has won three of his last four fights, with one of those victories coming in the Legacy FC promotion. Chaw has only won one of his last three fights, but his last fight was a victory over Colin Wright at Legacy FC 15. These are two fighters who are needing a victory in a bad way, but it will be Armas picking up the big win.

Up next is a heavyweight division fight as Chad Cook (9-9-0) takes on Dale “The Alpha Male” Mitchell (5-5-0). Cook has only won one of his last three fights, but one of those appearances came in the Strikeforce promotion. Mitchell has won four of his last five fights, with that lone loss coming to current Cage Warriors Heavyweight Champion DJ Linderman. This is another big “must win” fight on the preliminary card and it will be Mitchell getting that victory.

Headlining this portion of the card is a middleweight division fight as Larry “Tae Kwon” Crowe (5-2-0) faces Matt Rogers (8-4-0). Crowe has won four of his last five entering the fight, with one of those victories coming over Isaac Villanueva. Rogers is returning to competition after a very long break away from the cage and he also enters with a two fight losing streak. Crowe is a fighter on the rise in Legacy FC and he will show why with a victory on this Friday Night’s preliminary card.
