This weekend is all about the Bellator Fighting Championships as they are the lone MMA promotion putting on a televised event this weekend. The promotion is making sure they give the fans a good showing as the featherweight and middleweight tournament finalists will be determined. The tournament bouts will feature a UFC veteran and a former WEC Light Heavyweight Champion in action.
Kicking off the action is a featherweight tournament semi-final fight as Magomedrasul “Frodo†Khasbulaev (19-5-0) takes on Marlon “The Gladiator†Sandro (24-4-0). Khasbulaev earned his spot in the tournament semi-finals when he defeated Fabricio Da Silva at Bellator 88. Sandro punched his ticket to the semi-finals at Bellator 88 as well, as he defeated Akop Stepanyan by decision. Sandro got a controversial decision his last time out, but there will be no controversy this time around as he advances to the finals once more.
Another featherweight tournament semi-final fight is up next as Alexandre “Popo†Bezerra (15-2-0) competes against Mike “The Marine†Richman (14-2-0). Bezerra found himself competing in the tourney semi-final round when he defeated Genair Da Silva at Bellator 88. Richman made his way to his second straight tournament semi-finals when he defeated Mitch Jackson at the same event. This should be the best fight of the night from a striking standpoint, but it will be Richman getting to the finals.
Up next is a middleweight tournament semi-final fight as Sultan Aliev (9-0-0) battles Doug “The Rhino†Marshall (16-6-0). Aliev kept himself alive in the tournament at Bellator 89 when he defeated Mikkel Parlo by unanimous decision. Marshall competed at the very same event as Aliev, but defeated Andreas Spang to get his semi-final spot. This is a classic striker versus grappler match up, but it will be the striker in Doug Marshall pounding his way into the finals.
Headlining this card is a middleweight tournament semi-final fight as Brett “Fudoshin†Cooper (18-7-0) faces Dan “Cosmo†Cramer (10-3-0). Cooper was able to call himself a tournament semi-finalist when he defeated Norman Paraisy at Bellator 89. Cramer earned his position in the tournament’s second round when he defeated Brian Rogers at Bellator 89. This fight is definitely worthy of a main event position at Bellator 92, but it will be Brett Cooper going to the final round.
