BELLATOR 94 SPIKE.COM PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 3/26/2013 12:50 PM

There are only two weeks left in the historical eighth season of the Bellator Fighting Championships and the promotion is going out with a bang. This week’s card will feature a pair of tournament finals, in both the light heavyweight and lightweight divisions. The preliminary card is loaded to the gills as well, with a UFC veteran in action and a pair of great female battles.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Kenny “Kaveman” Moss (5-3-0) competes against Julien Williams (3-1-0). Moss is currently winless in Bellator competition, having suffered a defeat to Raul Amaya at Bellator 72. Williams enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which includes a Bellator 72 victory over Ryan DeRocher. Williams has been the more impressive of the two fighters in their young MMA careers and he will be picking up his third straight victory.

A women’s strawweight division battle is up next as Jessica “Jag” Aguilar (14-4-0) is in action against “Little” Patricia Vidonic (7-4-0). Aguilar enters the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes a victory over top Japanese fighter Megumi Fujii. Vidonic has only won one of her last four bouts, with one of those losses coming to Jessica Aguilar at a Fight Time 8 event. Aguilar is easily one of the best female fighters not in the UFC at the moment and she will continue to show why as she again defeats Vidonic.

Heavyweights will be entering the cage next as Rob Horton (0-0-0) does battle against Augusto Sakai (3-0-0). Horton will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did compete several times as an amateur. Sakai is an undefeated fighter who has finished all three of his previous opponents in the fights opening round. This is a bad fight for Horton to be making his pro debut in as Sakai will be remaining undefeated after this one is done.

We move to the bantamweight division for the next fight as Shah Bobonis (15-8-0) stands across the cage from Joe “The Juggernaut” Taimanglo (17-4-1). Bobonis has won seven of his last eight bouts, which includes a Bellator 50 victory over Marcos Da Matta. Taimanglo enters the fight riding an eight fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Per Eklund. These are two fighters who have been on incredible streaks, but it will be Taimanglo keeping his streak alive.

A pair of lightweights will be battling next as James Edson “Little Tiger” Berto (16-10-1) will battle Bruno Carvalho (8-2-0). Berto has only won one of his last five professional MMA fights and has not stepped into the cage in nearly a year. Carvalho enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak and has competed once in the DREAM promotion in Japan. These are two fighters at very different points in their careers and it will be Carvalho continuing his career upswing.

Another welterweight division fight is happening next as Patrick “Lights Out” Cenoble (9-2-0) battles Tony “The Freak” Fryklund (14-9-0). Cenoble has only won one of his last three bouts, which includes a loss to UFC veteran Yoislandy Izquierdo. Fryklund is a UFC veteran who is returning to the cage after a near six year absence, last fighting Cung Le at Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Baroni. Cenoble has a huge advantage over Fryklund in this battle and that will show as he gets the biggest victory of his career.

Up next is a women’s strawweight division fight as “Hurricane” Heather Clark (5-3-0) faces Felice “Lil’ Bulldog” Herrig (8-4-0). Clark has only won one of her last three fights and has spent the last year of her career in the Xtreme Fighting Championships. Herrig enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, which includes a victory over Patricia Vidonic at Bellator 84. Herrig is being touted by some as the next big WMMA star and she will show why as she defeats Clark on Thursday Night.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Ivan Devalle (0-0-0) takes on Rory “Rocky” Shallcross (2-5-0). Devalle is making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did compete many times as an amateur. Shallcross enters this fight with a very poor record, which includes losses to Bellator veterans Raul Amaya and Cristiano Souza. Why this fight is on the card is well beyond my thinking, but it will be Devalle making a successful pro MMA debut.
