This coming Saturday will be all about the MMA world with both Cage Warriors and the UFC putting on events. Cage Warriors is headlining its card with a bout to crown a new featherweight champion, as the belt was vacated after Conor McGregor left for the UFC. Also, there is an interesting female bout to check out and a couple of top prospect stepping into the cage.
Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division fight as James “Thaison†Doolan (17-8-2) competes against James Pennington (6-1-0). Doolan has won two of his last three fights, including a victory over Spencer Hewitt at December’s BAMMA 11 event. Pennington will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to David Grant at Shock N’ Awe 11. Pennington had been looking dominant until his last fight, but he will get back on track with a victory in this bout.
Another bantamweight division fight is up next as Paul Marin (5-2-0) is in action against Neil “2 Tap†Seer (11-9-0). Marin is currently winless in Cage Warriors competition, having been defeated by Paul McVeigh at Cage Warriors 52. Seery will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Karl Harrison at Cage Warriors 49. While Seer does have an experience edge over his opponent, it will be Marin rebounding from his last couple of bad performances to get the win.
A lightweight division fight is up next as Jason “Daddy Cool†Ball (19-11-0) does battle against Jason “The Animal†Cooledge (7-3-0). Ball has only won one of his last four bouts, with two of those losses coming to UFC veterans Andre Winner and Colin Fletcher. Cooledge will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, last defeating Simon Marsh at a UCF MMA event. Ball has faced far better competition than his opponent and that experience will carry him to the victory.
Middleweights will step into the cage next as Mats Nilsson (9-2-1) stands across the cage from Chris Scott (6-1-0). Nilsson has won five of his last six bouts, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Tom Speer at Cage Warriors Fight Night 3. Scott will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, with only one of those five fights going to the third round. This fight has the potential to be the fight of the night, but it will be Scott getting his sixth straight win.
Up next is a women’s strawweight division fight as Joanne Calderwood (5-0-0) takes on “Slick†Sally Krumdiack (9-6-0). Calderwood is an undefeated fighter who is coming off of a two fight run in Invicta FC, defeating both Ashley Cummins and Livia Von Plettenberg. Krumdiack has only won one of her last four fights, with that lone victory coming over Sarah Maloy at a Freestyle Cage Fighting event. Calderwood is a star on the rise in female MMA at the moment and she will show us all why as she remains undefeated on Saturday.
Headlining this card is a bout for the vacant Cage Warriors Featherweight Title as Jim “The Beast†Alers (9-1-0) faces Joni Salovaara (12-5-0). Alers will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, with two of those victories coming in Cage Warriors competition. Salovaara will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and he has not been defeated in nearly a year. These are two fighters who are worthy of being the featherweight champion, but it will be Alers winning the gold.
