Despite featuring a main event that was thrown together at the last minute, the UFC Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale is a card to check out. Besides the awesome main event between Urijah Faber and Scott Jorgensen, two fighters will battle it out to become the next “Ultimate Fighter.†Also, a women’s bantamweight title eliminator is happening and two top heavyweights will collide.
Kicking off the action is a middleweight division fight as Robert “Bubba†McDaniel (20-6-0) competes against Gilbert Smith (5-1-0). McDaniel will enter the fight riding a six fight winning streak, which includes a victory over TUF alumni Kyacey Uscola. Smith will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak and has spent most of his career in the No Mercy Extreme Fighting promotion. McDaniel has a lot of momentum and a huge experience edge over Smith, which is why he will get the victory.
Heavyweights will step into the cage next as Travis “Hapa†Browne (13-1-1) does battle with Gabriel “Napao†Gonzaga (14-6-0). Browne will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Antonio Silva at UFC On FX V. Gonzaga is currently undefeated in his second UFC run, last defeating Ben Rothwell by submission at UFC On FX VII. The winner of this fight could find themselves near title contention and it will be Browne getting that victory.
A women’s bantamweight division fight is up next as Miesha “Cupcake†Tate (13-3-0) battles “Alpha†Cat Zingano (7-0-0). Tate won six of eight while competing in Strikeforce and is a former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion. Zingano is an undefeated fighter who has defeated the likes of Carina Damm, Takayo Hashi and Raquel Pennington. The winner of this fight will coach on TUF 18 and get a women’s bantamweight title fight, it will be Zingano getting both of those.
Up next is the TUF 17 finals as Kelvin Gastelum (5-0-0) will be standing across the cage from Uriah Hall (7-2-0). Gastelum is currently undefeated in his professional MMA career, with none of his fights going to the judge’s scorecard. Hall enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, plus he has fought UFC veterans Chris Weidman and Costantinos Phillipou. These are two fighters worthy of being in the finals, but it will be the always dominant Hall getting the trophy.
Headlining this card is a bantamweight division fight as “The California Kid†Urijah Faber (27-6-0) faces Scott “Young Guns†Jorgensen (14-6-0). Faber has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with his last fight being a victory over Ivan Menjivar. Jorgensen has only won one of his last three in the UFC, with that lone victory coming over John Albert at UFC On Fox V. The winner of this could be real close to a bantamweight title fight and it will be Faber getting closer to the shot.
