XTREME FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 23 PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 4/15/2013 12:33 PM

This coming weekend will conclude with a UFC Lightweight Title bout on Fox, but it will begin with the Xtreme Fighting Championships. XFC 23 will be coming to AXS TV this Friday Night featuring a card being headlined by a UFC veteran and a key women’s fight. The preliminary card, which will not be airing in any way, will also feature a veteran from the early days of the UFC.

Kicking off the action is a welterweight division fight as Eric Jarvis (0-0-0) competes against Brandon Hurst (0-0-0). Jarvis will be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did win one of two as an amateur fighter. Hurst will also be making his professional MMA debut in this fight, but he did go undefeated as an amateur. It is always hard to pick a winner when both fighters are making their pro debuts, but Hurst had a better run as an amateur and he will start off his pro career with a win.

Heavyweights will be in the cage next as Wes “Soldier” Combs (19-5-0) stands across the cage from Derek Sawyer (4-5-0-1NC). Combs has won seven of ten since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Wilson Gouveia back at UFC 62. Sawyer will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with both victories coming in the Hardrock MMA promotion. Barring a massively huge upset from taking place, Combs should easily get by Sawyer when this one concludes.

A pair of featherweights will be in action next as Brandon “The Sandman” Sandefur (3-0-0) battles Josh “The Crippler” Cooper (1-0-0). Sandefur is an undefeated fighter who has only seen one of his three fights go to the judge’s scorecard. Cooper returns to the cage for the first time in three years, last competing at a 2010 Spartan FC event. The long layoff will be affecting Cooper in this one as Sandefur remains undefeated when it’s all said and done.

Up next is a middleweight division fight as Scott Hope (5-3-0) takes on Joshua “Pitbull” Blanchard (5-3-0). Hope enters the fight riding a four fight winning streak, with all four of those victories coming in the opening round. Blanchard will be entering the fight riding a two fight winning streak and has primarily competed in the Hardrock MMA promotion. These are two fighters with the exact same record, but Hope has been on a far better roll than his foe and that will continue on Friday Night.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Eugene “The Gift” Perrin (1-0-0) faces Augusta “Ice Ice Baby” Tindall (2-1-0). Perrin made his professional MMA debut a few weeks ago, defeating Randy Jones at Hardrock MMA 55. Tindall enters the fight riding a two fight winning streak and has spent his entire career in the Spartan FC promotion. These are two fighters at the early point of their pro careers, but it will be Perrin keeping his undefeated streak alive.
