The UFC is returning to Brazil this weekend with a card loaded with some of the best talent the country of Brazil has to offer. The event will be headlined with a potential middleweight title eliminator as Luke Rockhold faces Vitor Belfort. One portion of the preliminary card, which is streaming on Facebook, will feature a fighter who was once considered the top flyweight in the world in Jussier Formiga.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division contest as Jeremy Larsen (8-3-0) battles Lucas “Mineiro†Martins (12-1-0). Larsen is currently winless under the UFC banner, dropping a fight to Joe Proctor at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale. Martins is also winless as a competitor in the UFC, with his loss coming to Edson Barboza at UFC On FX VII. This is a must win fight if either fighter is to remain in the UFC, but it will be Martins getting his first win in the UFC.
Up next is a flyweight division fight as Chris “Kamikaze†Cariaso (14-4-0) takes on Jussier Formiga (14-2-0). Cariaso has won four of six fights in the UFC, with a notable victory coming over Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 144. Formiga is currently winless in UFC competition, having suffered a defeat to John Dodson at UFC On FX V. This is a much bigger fight in the flyweight division than it may seem on paper, but it will be Cariaso keeping Formiga winless in the UFC.
Headlining this portion of the card is a flyweight division fight as Azamat “Tough Guy†Gashimov (7-2-0) faces John “Hands Of Stone†Lineker (20-6-0). Gashimov is currently winless in UFC competition, having suffered a defeat to Ivan Menjivar at UFC 154. Lineker has split both of his fights in the UFC, defeating Yasuhiro Urushitani and suffering a defeat to Louis Gaudinot. These are two of the better finishers in the flyweight division and it will be Lineker winning his second straight in the UFC.
