The UFC returns to pay-per-view for the first time in nearly a month with the UFC Heavyweight Championship on the line. The promotion has really put a top notch card together, which is proven by just how loaded the Facebook portion of the preliminary card is. Such top UFC luminaries as Stephen Thompson, Jeremy Stephens, Brian Bowles and George Roop will all compete.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as Estevan “El Terrible†Payan (14-3-0-1NC) battles Jeremy “Lil’ Heathen†Stephens (20-9-0). Payan will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is coming off of an undefeated run in Strikeforce. Stephens will enter the fight riding a three fight losing streak and he has not earned a victory in almost two years. Payan has been looking dominant heading into his UFC debut and he will get the win to knock Stephens out of the UFC.
Up next is a bantamweight division encounter as Brian Bowles (10-2-0) competes against George Roop (13-9-1). Bowles has won two of three during his run in the UFC, but he has not competed in over eighteen months. Roop is currently undefeated as a bantamweight in the UFC, having defeated Reuben Duran at UFC 158. Returning after a long layoff is going to hamper Bowles in this one as Roop will still be undefeated as a bantamweight when it’s all over.
Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Nah-Shon “The Rock-N-Rolla†Burrell (9-2-0) faces Stephen “Wonderboy†Thompson (6-1-0). Burrell is currently undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Yuri Villefort by decision at UFC 157. Thompson has split both of his UFC appearances, defeating Dan Stittgen and suffering a defeat to Matt Brown. This should be one of the better striking duels of the entire card, but it will be Thompson ending Burrell’s undefeated streak in the UFC.
