UFC 160 FX PRELIMINARY CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 5/23/2013 9:03 PM

The UFC is returning to action on Memorial Day weekend with a card being headlined by a UFC Heavyweight Title fight. The card that is airing of pay-per-view is a stacked one at that and the same can be said about the fights airing on FX. The FX portion of the preliminary card will feature a big welterweight division fight and a pair of UFC Ultimate Fighter Champions in action.

Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov (19-0-0) competes against Abel “Killa” Trujillo (10-4-0). Nurmagomedov is currently undefeated in UFC competition, with victories over Kamal Shalorus, Gleison Tibau and Thiago Tavares. Trujillo is also undefeated in UFC competition, having defeated Marcus LeVesseur at UFC On Fox V. These are two of the better rising stars in the lightweight division and it will be Nurmagomedov remaining undefeated in the end.

A pair of welterweights will compete next as Colton Smith (3-1-0) does battle against Robert Whittaker (10-2-0). Smith was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter 16, where he defeated Mike Ricci in the tournament finals. Whittaker was the winner of the UFC Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, where he defeated Brad Scott in the finals. This is a rare TUF Champion vs. TUF Champion fight in the UFC, but it will be Whittaker proving to be the superior TUF Champion.

Up next is a featherweight division fight as Dennis “The Menace” Bermudez (10-3-0) faces “Blessed” Max Holloway (7-1-0). Bermudez will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with a notable victory over Matt Grice at UFC 157. Holloway will also enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with his last victory coming over Leonard Garcia at UFC 155. These are two of the better featherweight prospects in the UFC right now, but it will be Bermudez winning his fourth straight in the promotion.

Headlining this portion of the card is a welterweight division fight as Mike “Quicksand” Pyle (24-8-1) battles Rick “The Horror” Story (15-6-0). Pyle will enter the fight riding a three fight winning streak, with all of those victories coming in the opening round. Story has won two of his last three under the UFC banner, with a victory over Quinn Mulhern at UFC 158. Pyle has been on a career resurgence in the last year or so and he will continue that resurgence with a victory on Saturday Night.
