The UFC is returning to pay-per-view this weekend with two fights that will dictate the heavyweight division for the rest of 2013. A new top contender to the UFC Lightweight Title will also be determined when TJ Grant faces Gray Maynard. Also, KJ Noons will be making his long awaited UFC debut and a pair of light heavyweight sluggers will battle it out.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as Donald “Cowboy†Cerrone (19-5-0-1NC) competes against “King†KJ Noons (11-6-0). Cerrone has won two of his last three entering this fight, with a notable victory over Melvin Guillard at UFC 150. Noons will be making his UFC debut in this fight, but he is coming off of a seven fight run in the Strikeforce promotion. This should be one of the more entertaining fights on the entire card, but it will be Cerrone spoiling Noon’s UFC debut.
Another lightweight division fight is up next as TJ Grant (20-5-0) does battle with Gray “The Bully†Maynard (11-1-1-1NC). Grant will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, last defeating Matt Wiman by knockout at UFC On Fox VI. Maynard has had a win, loss and draw in his last three fights, but his last fight was a victory over Clay Guida at UFC On FX IV. The majority of this fight should be contested on the ground, which is where Grant will get the victory and a title shot.
We Move to the light heavyweight division for the next fight as James Te Huna (16-5-0) battles Glover Teixeira (20-2-0). Te Huna will enter the fight riding a four fight winning streak, last defeating Ryan Jimmo at UFC On Fuel TV VII. Teixeira will be entering the fight on an eighteen fight winning streak and he has not suffered a defeat in eight years. Teixeira is a victory or two away from a UFC Light Heavyweight Title shot and he will get one step closer on Saturday Night.
Up next is a heavyweight division fight as Junior “Cigano†Dos Santos (15-2-0) takes on Mark “Super Samoan†Hunt (9-7-0). Dos Santos will be returning to the octagon for the first time since losing the UFC Heavyweight Title to Cain Velasquez at UFC 155. Hunt will enter the fight on a four fight winning streak and will enter the fight as a late replacement for Alistair Overeem. This fight will come down to who posses’s the better striking in the late rounds, which is where Dos Santos will claim victory.
Headlining this card is a UFC Heavyweight Title fight as champion Cain Velasquez (11-1-0) defends against Antonio “Big Foot†Silva (18-4-0). Velasquez will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won by defeating Junior Dos Santos at UFC 155. Silva earned the opportunity when he got a pair of victories over both Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem. Not much has changed skill wise between the fighters since their first meeting at UFC 146 and it will be Velasquez winning once again.
