ONE FC IX IPPV CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 5/27/2013 11:01 PM

The highly touted One FC promotion returns to iPPV (through OneFc.com) this Friday Night with a card featuring two championship bouts. Besides the two championship bouts, the finals of the One FC Bantamweight Grand Prix will be taking place. Also, a trio of UFC veterans will be on the card, with two of them making their official debuts in One FC.

Kicking off the action is a bantamweight division fight as Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio (4-1-0) competes against Andrew Leone (5-2-0). Eustaquio will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which includes a victory over Alex Silva at One FC II. Leone recently saw a five fight winning streak snapped at Road FC VIII, when he was submitted by Kyung Ho Kang. These are two good up and coming bantamweights to keep an eye on, but it will be Leone getting back on track.

Lightweights will be stepping into the cage next as Eduard “Landslide” Folayang (12-3-0) does battle against Kamal “Prince Of Persia” Shalorus (7-3-2). Folayang has won two of three fights under the One FC banner, with a notable victory over Felipe Enomoto at One FC V. Shalorus will be competing for the first time since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC On Fuel TV III. Shalorus was looking like a stud up until his came to the UFC and his woes will continue as Folayang earns the biggest win of his career.

A pair of middleweights will compete next as “The New York Bad Ass” Phil Baroni (15-16-0) is in action against Nobutatsu Suzuki (9-1-2). Baroni has only won one of his last four competitors, with that lone victory coming over Rodrigo Ribeiro at One FC V. Suzuki will be looking to rebound from his first career defeat, which came to Keita Nakamura at Vale Tudo Japan I. Baroni is a long way away from his dominant days of the UFC’s past, so it will be Suzuki getting back in the win column.

We move to the flyweight division for the next fight as Rey “The Punisher” Docyogen (10-1-0) stands across the cage from Yasuhiro Urushitani (19-6-6). Docyogen will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA loss, which came to Shinichi Kojima at One FC VII. Urushitani will be competing for the first time since his UFC release, which came after a loss to John Lineker at UFC ON Fuel TV VI. Urushitani is still considered one of the best flyweights on the scene today, even though he had a poor run in the UFC and he will show why with a victory on Friday Morning.

The One FC Bantamweight Grand Prix Finals are up next as Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon (11-2-0) faces Masakatsu Ueda (17-2-2). Belingon earned his way into the grand prix finals when he defeated both Yusup Saadulaev and Thanh Vu. Ueda punched his ticket into the grand prix finals when he achieved victories over both Min Jung Song and Jens Pulver. Belingon has been the more dominant fighter in the tournament when compared to his foe, which is why he will get the victory.

Up next is a One FC Interim Bantamweight Title decision fight as Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes (13-3-0) battles Koetsu Okazaki (8-2-1). Fernandes will enter the fight riding a five fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Antonio Banuelos. Okazaki has won three of his last four fights and will be competing outside of the Shooto promotion for the first time. Fernandes is such a talented fighter that the UFC offered him a contract a year ago and he turned it down, he will show how good he is by capturing the interim championship.

Headlining this card is a One FC Featherweight Title fight as champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario (8-1-0) defends against Koji Oishi (23-9-10). Banario will be making the first defense of his championship, which he won when he defeated Eric Kelly at One FC VII. Oishi earned the opportunity for a title shot after winning two of his last three, with a notable victory over Jon Shores at Pancrase 14. This fight will easily be the biggest test of the champion’s career thus far, but it will be a test that the fighter passes as he holds onto the belt.
