XTREME FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 24 AXS TV MAIN CARD PREVIEW

By David Tees on 6/10/2013 6:15 PM

The highly touted Xtreme Fighting Championships returns to action this Friday Night and six great bouts are being broadcast on AXS TV. A new XFC Lightweight Champion will be crown with Scott Holtzman and John Mahlow battle to be crowned champion. If that was not enough for you, Bellator veteran Luis Santos and a pair of great female fighters are set to compete.

Kicking off the action is a featherweight division fight as Shah Bobonis (15-8-0) competes against Jason “The Ronin” Hicks (5-1-0). Bobonis has won seven of his last eight fights, which includes a victory over Marcos De Matta at Bellator 50. Hicks will be looking to rebound from his first professional MMA defeat, which came to Scott Holtzman at XFC 22. Hicks was a win away from competing for the XFC Lightweight Title and he will get closer to that opportunity as he gets the win on Friday Night.

A women’s flyweight division fight is up next as Cortney “Cast Iron” Casey (0-0-0) does battle with Kelly Warren (3-4-0). Casey will be making her professional MMA debut in this fight, but she did win six of eight fights as an amateur. Warren will enter the fight riding a four fight losing streak and she has not earned a victory in nearly two years. Casey does enter this fight with a huge experience disadvantage, but Warren is not on a good run right now and Casey will capitalize to get the win.

More lightweight division action is up as Kevin Forant (5-0-0) is in action against Eric “It’s A Wrap” Reynolds (16-6-0). Forant is currently undefeated in XFC competition, having defeated Joe Elmore by unanimous decision at XFC 19. Reynolds is a former XFC Lightweight Champion, he lost the championship to Nick Newell at XFC 21. Forant has been impressive thus far in his MMA career, but Reynolds is a former champion and will get back on track as he gets the victory in this one.

Welterweight division action is up next as “Insane” Dave Courchaine (15-5-0) battles Luis “Sapo” Santos (56-9-1). Courchaine will enter the fight riding a seven fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Ronald Jhun. Santos will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Shamar Bailey. Courchaine is facing the biggest test of his MMA career in this fight, but Santos will make sure he fails the test.

Up next is a middleweight division fight as Reggie “The Regulator” Pena (10-5-0) faces Ricky “The Sniper” Rainey (5-1-0). Pena has won three of his last four fights, which includes a submission victory over UFC veteran John Salter. Rainey will enter the fight riding a two fight winning streak, with his lone career loss coming to Johnny Buck at XFC 19. These are two exciting middleweights worth keeping an eye on, but it will be Rainey scoring the victory either way.

Headlining this card is an XFC Lightweight Title decision fight as Scott “Hot Sauce” Holtzman (4-0-0) faces John “The Mulatto Mauler” Mahlow (13-13-0). Holtzman earned an opportunity to become champion when he defeated Jason Hicks by decision at XFC 22. Mahlow has only won one of his last four bouts, with two of those losses coming to UFC veterans Junior Assuncao and Rafaello Oliveira. Holtzman has been talking a lot of trash since getting that shot and he will back it up by winning the gold.
