The ever-growing World Series Of Fighting promotion returns to action on Friday Night with a card headlined by a pair of UFC veterans. The card, even though it has a late start time of 11pm EST., is well worth going out of your way to check out. Besides the previously mentioned main event, Jacob Volkmann makes his first post-UFC appearance and other fighters are looking to make an impact.
Kicking off the action is a lightweight division fight as Lyle “Fancy Pants†Beerbohm (21-2-0) competes against Jacob “Christmas†Volkmann (15-4-0). Beerbohm will enter the fight riding a six fight winning streak, which includes a victory over UFC veteran Marcus Aurelio. Volkmann will be competing for the first time since his UFC release, which came after a loss to Bobby Green at UFC 156. The majority of this bout should be contested on the ground, but it will be Beerbohm notching a big career victory.
More lightweight division action is up next as Brian “The Bandit†Cobb (20-7-0) battles Justin Gaethje (8-0-0). Cobb is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, having defeated Ronys Torres by split decision at WSOF I. Gaethje is coming off of the biggest victory of his professional MMA career, as he defeated Gesias Cavalcante at WSOF II. These are two fighters who are both on the verge of a breakout and it will be Cobb ending Gaethje’s undefeated streak in this one.
Up next is a welterweight division fight as Steve Carl (19-3-0) takes on Tyson “The Man Of†Steele (10-1-0). Carl is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, having defeated Ramico Blackmon by submission at WSOF I. Steele is also undefeated in WSOF competition, with his victory coming over Gregor Gracie by TKO at WSOF I. This is a key welterweight division fight with a potential title being introduced shortly, but it will be Steele getting the win.
Headlining this card is a welterweight division fight as Josh “The Peoples Warrior†Burkman (25-9-0) faces Jon Fitch (24-5-1-1NC). Burkman is currently undefeated in WSOF competition, having defeated both Gerald Harris and Aaron Simpson. Fitch will be competing outside of the UFC for the first time in nearly eight years, he amassed a record of 14-3-0-1NC during his time in the UFC. Fitch won the initial encounter between the two fighters and history will repeat itself this coming Friday Night.
